Thread: An idea for giving the Tera Kasi Artist the ability to fight while on the move
Every person who has played a tera kasi knows how annoying it is when you have to chase your target down and not have the capability to strike at him or her while moving. All melee professions have the same problum but I think tera kasi would have the most fun with this idea. Create or motion capture animations of martial art combat moves that require the character to go in a forward motion. My example of this is the unarmed lunge. Instead of doing the basic motion seen for unarmed lunge have the character do a jump kick or run forward in a bull rush type of motion. this would give tera kasi artists the ability to attack while in motion because the animation is the sttack itself. for other moves that are special attacks let the character burst forward in a lunging like motion and as soon as they connect with the first strike the rest of the attack animation goes off.
An example of this would be the tera kasi jumps forward hitting the opponent with a backhand, nails him with a knee, then a side kick as the opponent leaves the treat range of the tera kasi artist. this would require a burst run like effect to catch the opponent. the tera kasi learns to lunge at his opponent from the get go. he should be able to apply variations of the lunge to his other attacks to catch and do damage. it must be limited to 20 meters like unarmed lunge or game balence would be really messed up. the cost of lungeing could also be built into the ham cost for the specific attack being done and also keyed to the range requirements as well. an example of this is if the target is out of standing still striking range ( beyond 5 meters) the jump forwards and strike animation would kick in to get to the target and strike. extra ham costs would be applied after that. not to much though because its just a small burst of speed to land the strike. it will add up int the long run.
also for more advanced moves like knockdown one turn the animation into a throw like motion. the poor fella being knocked down can't do anything beyond get up from laying on his back so lets make it look a little spiffy. to really get the concept I am trying to write out here go to martial arts tournaments. go observe matches at dojos. observe the different martial art styles out there like kempo, karate, tie kick boxing, shotokan, shotokan kempo, judo, and even kendo and fencing for examples. lungeing, jumping forward, and small busrts of speed are key to every one of those fighting style for catching up and keeping pace with their opponent. go check out kung fu movies to. pure and simple a well trained melee fighter has no trouble catching and striking their target with any attack if they are within ten feet or even 20 feet.
All opinions and comments are happily welcome.
But the idea is nice, all we need is a little bit more range, and we are invincible?
