currently, i would say go with w/e template can get you the most versatility/defenses. Im planning on taking pistoleer for it's melee defense and state defenses. Some people use other melee profs to get this. Also, having medic never hurt anyone.

If you just want a good PVE character go SWORDSMEN / TKA / Master brawler - you really dont need TKA just for meditate then throw skill around somewhere else but this wouldnt be too bad in pvp either.

Indeed TKM/Rifleman is a very powerful template. PvE and PvP. As for Melee or Ranged, both work well, just depends on which Ranged profession you are comparing with which melee profession. Sword works well, Rifle, Fencer (good PvP potential here). Carbines, Pistols, Pike is rather dodgy as Carbines are ineffective without the BH line, Pistols - broken specialsand again needs BH line or smuggler line, and Pike relies too much on rare drops.

I am TKM/Master Brawler/4440 Fencer/0340 Pistoleer. Amazing defenses.

PVE= realm of swordsman/rifleman/commando
MSW/MRM gives you 52 SP to spare (some medic/scout?)
MSW/M commando gives 4SP, with commando 0440 is 33sp left

I like TKM/Master Rifleman. Rifleman gives nice melee and ranged defenses and combined with TKM you would probably hit the cap there. Rifleman do great dmg and have some nice skills specificly geared towards hunting big game. Plus with Rifleman you get access to Acid, Cold, Energy, Heat and Stun dmg so that allows you to be more effective against a wider range of NPC's and creatures out there instead of just being stuck with kinetic dmg.
Drawbacks are most of Rifleman's skills are area attacks so it might bring unwanted attention from surrounding creatures in a fight.
