Due to TKA innate toughness mods (highest of any class) TKA seem to be able to take damage, withstand damage and wounding much better than any other class.
However, being an MSwordsman gives you blast damage, which currently might be a worthy-trade off from toughness.
As it stands, every Melee class is a great tank...TKA have a slight slight slight edge (I mean very miniscule given the current state of buffs, armor, damage reduction food...) so offensive force tends to win in a given situation.

Fencer tends to have the defensive advantage against ranged attacks due to their effective center of being and dodge abilities. They also are very state immune. But in terms of raw, up close, melee damage, TKAs are simply the best tank in the game with the abilities given to them.
The problem, however, is they sacrafice that tanking ability with limited offense. The things we *can* hurt, we can hurt incredibly well, but we are limited in PvP and high end PvE content to being mostly a damage shield.
The reverse is true for the Swords and Pike professions. They have much lower defense than Fencer or TKA, but have much higher offensive capability. Pike has issues though and desperately needs improvement, which leaves swords and the general default offensive melee profession. This is why, with armor, buffs, and mixing in TKA and/or Fencer, a Heavy Swords user is simply deadly in PvE.
To answer your question regarding the tanking power of TKM, our major advantage(our high unarmed toughness) is not active unless you are unarmed or just have a VK equipped. So you will not get that toughness boost while using a sword.
However, every other defensive mod will be active(except for Defensive Accuity but that does almost nothing anyway so mostly ignore it). And, should you be in a situation where you need a breather and need to boost your defense while tanking something, you can just unequip your sword and suddenly get an extra 57 to 62% damage reduction against melee attacks.

^^ very well put.
i'd just like to add that dodge for fencer does not scale well against high end mobs. even with air cake, a fencer will take a beating against the likes of SBDs, and Elders.

Hello All Noble TKM,
I am a Master Swordman, and working on Master brawler and TKM, my question is that when I using my PH or Scythe, do I still have the "TANKING" power of TKM? or I have to use a VK in order to absorb more damage?
Thank you so much for your reply

The other perk of TKA tanks is the ability to shake off disease and wounds at the end of the combat. Most other classes, when facing a diseasing target, are stuck unless there is a doctor there to heal them up. And even then, mind wounds are a problem. However, with a TKA with adequate skill boxes, after the combat is over, they can meditate the disease and the wounds away so that they are fresh for the next tanking assignment, including mind bar.

The quick answer is no, you wont be as well off until you get TKM for just tanking, but you make up for that with your damage output.
As TKM you ahve Unarmed toughness of 61 with your sword in hand you have 2h Toughness of 43...so you will take more damage, but if you are just going to be tanking a high end mob that you cant hurt much anyway i.e. SBD Id leave the VKs equipped and use our wide variety of status effects such as stun, blind, dizzy, and kd to help your ranged comrades.
