I just posted this over in the rifleman forum, and thought you guys might have some good advice, TKM is pretty impreesive, I saw some guy tanking a kryat last night, don't know how you do it.
So, I just got back to the game after not logging in for like 6 months. It didn't take me too long to figure out stuff like speeders, player cities and how good food is now, but I'm still finding out new stuff all the time.
Anyways, I only had about 2 1/2 boxes left till master rifleman, and I ground through those pretty quick, and have been enjoying going around and killing everything. Now I have to figure out what I want to do now that I've got master.
Right now here's my skills, I'm like 99% PvE
Master rifleman
Marksman 4004
Swordsman 0200
Master scout
Ranger 0040
Swordsman has been nice when things get to melee range (especially since I got most of my experience with the 2.5 melee penalty on rifles) And rangers cool too since I'm pretty much the only source of hides for my guild, and tracking is usefull. But I think it would be worth it to drop some ranger and scout skills, and get master marksman for the +5 to rifle speed. And if I'm going to drop some, I'll probably drop everything except for scout 0040 so I can still get a decent amount of hides. That'll let me pick up the master marksman, plus some other stuff.
And that's what I'm not sure on, I could get some more swordsman, although I don't think I'll have enough skill points left to master it. I could always say screw hides, drop scoutn completely and get master.
TKM are pretty impressive too. So maybe I could mix and match TK with sword, or maybe just get TKM instead.
Pretty much, I'm out of touch with the game, and besides being fairly certain I should get master marksman, I'm not sure what best compliments my new master rifleman skills. I'm open to any ideas, even crazy stuff I haven't thought of yet, MCH? DE? Chef?

well seems you need to decide where your priorities are. You can choose mastery in 2 weapons and have skill points left over for support.
With Rifle/Swords you have the option of heavy damage to the same stat (mind), but you dont get many of the defense bonuses you normally could.
I prefer TK myself, whereas our strongest hit UnarmedHit3 targets any pool randomly our sheer speed makes it a forgone conclusion we will kill what we are hitting. We are currently limited to only 1 damage type, but we can apply states pretty well and we have the highest toughness of all the melee profs ( the reason you saw that guy taking on a krayt and not getting stomped so easily)
One last point. For swordsmen to be really effective the scythe is one of their most potent weapons, but scythes often run in the 100s of K for a TK to be effective a 6k pair of VKs damage sliced on any of a dozen vendors does pretty well
oh and dont forget meditate most useful skill in the game. I would suggest looking at the TK FAQ in this forum Forgie had a great FAQ and it tells you how to level TK pretty easily

I had been a TKM/Master Rifle for nearly 6 months and the combo was the best for 90% of the PvE stuff. TKM may be able to tank anything for a while but because of the light AP they won't damage the higher level PvE stuff enough before they eventually get worn down. Some creatures will actually kite a TK and charge a Rifleman so the melee/ranged combo is pretty useful.
I dropped rifleman for some other reasons but if you want PvE with great overall def then TKM/Master Rifle is about the best you can get I think. Although TKM/Swordsman ormaybe Swordsman/Riflemanwould the best for the higher end PvE creatures. The Swordsman gives medium AP with the ability to target the mind pool for bleed and hits as well as the benefits mentioned by the other poster in realtion to TKM meditation.
If you are Master Riflemana already you shouldn't really need to Master Marksman for additonal speed. Speed sliced and speed powerups combined with the speed of the MR allowed me to shoot at least every 1.5 seconds with a T21...

Hey, could you guys explain toughness a bit, I'm really only usedto being a rifleman, and getting my ass kicked when anything gets close to me.
Also, if I wasn't going to get master, what are the best lines?

My understanding of toughness is that it reduces the amount of damage from an opponent as well as mitigation forcing your opponent closer or decreasing their chance to hit you the farther they are from you.
If melee defense is your main weakness, as I rememebr MR gets like 45 melee def, just go up the TK defense tree then...I find that I am most comfortable with a melee def arounf 90+..with TKM/MRM I think I had 100 some odd melee def...

Ok, I've been reading a bunch more stuff about defense bonuses and junk.
And it seems like unarmed toughness isn't really what I'm looking for. But taking the defense line to get the melee defense bonuses that stack would be a good idea. And while I'm up here, I could take some boxes in the meditation line, is it worth it to get all the way to meditation 4?
so, I'm thinking right now, MRM, a couple lines in TK and swords man, a little scout, and would there be any benefit to squeezing some medic in there, or is it not that usefull once you have meditation?
Thanks again.

"I could take some boxes in the meditation line, is it worth it to get all the way to meditation 4"
Being able to sit down and heal every single wound in seconds or minutes, while also removing bleeds, poison and disease... Yeah I'd say it's worth it.
Oh and you'd get FOW which can save your life if you're lucky.

meditation 4 should allow you heal all HAM wounds, poisons, diseases and allow a self HAM buff of 450+.

I have to say no dont get some swords and some tk... if your going to get anything make it either all swords or all tk so when you use your melee prof it will be most effective. If you just want to stack some def a great line is pistols IV which basically covers your greatest weakness as a rifleman (which i should know since i always go after rifleman first) and that iskd / post change down. And yes meditate is awsome.
