Thread: (Kinda) OT: Why did you go TK?

Just sat browsing as I can't sleep & I thought I'd make a thread to see why everyone here went TK & what their time leveling it was like.

For me it was early/mid January, I had been slowly learning Pistoleer + CH for two weeks before hand & had just hit novice in each, then I saw a TK for the first time fighting. It wasn't the damage, it wasn't the deffense but the pure looks. After that momentI started slowly working on unarmed & as I was now in a guild I was geting on more hunts. Three days later I hit novice & was loving it.

I made the descission to go the way that would best suit unbuffed fighting in my opinion & took 2-0-0-0 first then a bit of Power tech, then some Balance.

Two weeks later (Late Jan/Early Feb) after many unbuffed Rancor hunts & squill groups as well as killing all sorts of other stuff I was out on a pre-hunt hunt (we were bored waiting for everyone else to get on so we could start the hunt early & did some Squill missions on Tat) & then I finnaly made it. One of my guild mates in the group who had been TKM since I started was there & taught me the final boxes. Then that night first I got to try & solo an Enraged Rancor unbuffed& managed it (only the one though) with a little help from Intim & Warycry (when it used to stick till the time was up).

Then I got back to Tat later & was out side AH & found a Mountain Squil lair that was causing someone some problems as he was a crafter & he was stuck in his house due to it. I then managed to solo the lair unbuffed with just my power boost & a muon (I might have has some Tat Sunburn or Breath of Heaven (the old style stuff) as well I can't remember). Was great fun & felt like a real achivment & the crafter was happy he could leave his house once again.

So thats mine.. Why did you go TK? & what was your most memorible early experience of it?

Was Rifleman0040, MCH, Scout 4040 and some medic. Went on my first trip to Dath and saw some TKM's in action on ER spawns and it looked great, and was obviously effective.

So I started droping rifle skills and started grinding brawler to give this a go. As soon as I made novice TK I was hooked. Then I visited a character build tool on one of the stratic like sites and

reworked my overall build and now with my build complete I am, with my pets, knocking over Frenzied Grauls unbuffed and unarmoured and loving it.

I started back in beta doing mostly rifles and pistols, with scout and medic, on various characters. For fun I made a trandoshan brawler and I like the unarmed combat more than other melee. In fact, TKA was the first profession I liked enough to bother mastering. When the game went live I made a brawler like in beta. Krayt has had many professions, like smuggler, pistoleer, entertainer, dancer, creature handler, scout, medic, artisan, fencer, but the one profession he has never given up is TKA.

I took up tk as my first ever prof cos I thought it looked awesome and I like the idea behind it. Now I'm taking it up again as a BH because I don't get a choice if I want to fight worthwhile jedi.

It's always been my favourite profession, but I dropped it when I wanted to pvp more, rifleman was more effective, but it was mainly me not knowing my own advantages and how to fight.

Got spoiled with my doc being able to heal wounds out in the field. Didn't want to worry about carrying extra meds with my alt so I picked up TK. Haven't dropped it yet and don't plan too.

The third day after launch I dueled a guy who apparently used the baz nitch exploit( i didn't know, found out several months later). He was TKM and killed me in one hit. Seeing UH3 for the first time got mehooked.

I went pikeman first for a couple of months, then finally went TK. Took me several months to master, this was way before buffs and armor came out and I wasn't medic.

I'm a RL martial artist. Its what I do.
Bought the game, read the manual (rofl like that helped), said martial arts and ... hmmm I dunno, and started killing butterflies. (and good god the unarmed grind really sucked back in the old days no armor, buffs etc) Took me 4 months to get Master. Never given it up since.

I did rifles, carbines, pistols, fencer, commando, etc etc. For low to mid level content my roommate tore through the npc's faster than any ranged profession I ever had. The last straw came when we were playing around and hitting each other unarmor. His /headhit1 was doing more damage than my 302 damage Jawa. Finally I broke down and decided to make an altTK/Swordsman on yet another server. I use TK more than the swords now since APbonuses areso rarely needed. Janta lairs....not a prob. Sith thugs....not a prob. Death Watch Ghosts....not a prob.

Ever since then I discovered why everywhere I go I see a pair of VK's or a TK title up. If you can't beat them...join them.

When I started...I did a lot of solo hunting. Small stuff. As i climbed up in scout and rifles....I met my buddy jedd. I was almost a master rifleman when he helped me and another noob take on banthas and teh such. I was impressed with TK..I must admit. But then i thought of how long it took me to get to where i was in rifles. So after dabbling in brawler I dropped unarmed completely and became mrm/mr. Bored with the animations of rifleman, tired of not really getting attacked by creatures because of how fast i could take them down from far away...I dropped rifleman. By the time i log off later this afternoon...I should be a tkm. I love it more so far than I did rifleman at this point. The animations are exciting...plus it opens up even more RP options. While I will miss ranger...i plan on going back.... I am looking forward to the badges I'll be getting. I badge hungry what can I say. Plus TK's look sweet. I for one am looking forward to the Combat Revamp for the new animations and special moves SOE is adding. Should keep it interesting.
