Thread: Last nights results testing HAM of Knockdowns...

Last night, I did some real extensive testing for about 4 hours on Lok nymrsand here are my observations.

1) KD1 and KD2 are the same HAM cost, so If you have KD2, use it over its precursor. All w/o VK of course.

2) Lunge1/Dizzy works, but nowhere near as good as simply using KDs, however an interesting combination I was using was KD2/lunge and sometimes I seemed to preserve more HAM using this conjunction instead of simply using KDs.

3) KDs still stack.

4) Lunge2 (w/o Vks of course) for master brawlers has significantly less HAM cost than either TKA knockdown, but it seems to fail slightly more, and does significantly less damage.

5) The best XP I got in one hour was still around 50k.

In the end, over the four hours I tested, I managed to net around 100k xperiences, with one death and 3 incapps. I am about 250k from master TKA, so I am sure for the lesser tka people, this potential xp might not be attainable, but then again, it might be. Furthermore, I did all of this testing w/o the use of any buffs, stims or chef food.

So what can we conclude from this? I think we can conclude that TKA is still semi doable solo, but nowhere near what it once was. We can also conclude that if you get any adds if you are fighting reds and have no support skills, you probably don't have a snowballs chance at winning. Xp wise, I went from getting 450k xp in the same time frame the night before, to simply 100k the next night. This is on yellow/white single pull cons mind you. The thing we should be fighting for is this: Equal HAM costs as pistoleers. I just think its highly rediculous that they get a more efficient KD in melee ranges then an actual melee class. Honestly, KD was begging to be nerfed, and if you argue otherwise, no offense, but I think you are a retard. They simply went a little overboard and are quite out of balance with the melee range KDs of a non melee class. I would say at the minimum drop the HAM usage by at least 50 points, or make it comprable to the lunge knockdowns of brawler. Melee KDs should be the most efficient in the game in my opinion, and as of now that just isnt the case.

In the end, we have two choice, adapt to the inevitable (i.e. a REASONABLE nerf) or quit the tka profession/game all together. Keep in mind though that by default, you are already considered a second class citizen of this game for going melee, and in that some compromises have to be made.

My PA has a Master TKA/Master Pistoleer, so she is able to directly compare Pistol Whip to Unarmed Knockdown 2. According to her testing yesterday (all day yesterday), Pistol Whip does significantly less damage than pre-patch, and fails to knock down approximately four times as often as Unarmed Knockdown 2. Given that Pistol Whip costs only about half what Unarmed Knockdown 2 does (and not one quarter), the TKA knockdown ends up being the more efficient and reliable attack.

It would be nice if we could get a dev to comment on effectiveness of various knockdowns. Won't happen I'm sure, but I still don't think its too much to ask to lower our HAM usage about 50-100 points. Its a little rediculous that a TKA, a martial artist mind you, takes more HAM hits than a guy who whips someone with a pistol.

I am also a pistoleer/master TKA and I haven't seen anywhere near a 1/4 success rate in pistoleer knockdown. It seems to be slightly less effective than KD2, but not noticable enough for me to to even say it's half as effective. In fact, I've been unarmed fightning then switching to my pistol for knockdowns, and that's just ridiculous.

Grimror, thats a pretty fair assessment of the situation. I reached similar conclusions myself last night.

Good post.

Hi - I wanted to post on another thread where someone very thoughtfully asked for detailed information, but I can't find it yet. In the thread I said I would look though this stuff again, and that I careed more about factual information that I did about being right or wrong.

Well after reading all the technical things here and going into the game again to test it out, I think I can say that I WAS wrong and my total overall health, action and mind drain for knockdown is about 200. The only pool that ever gets me in trouble is action, and the drain on that is only about 70 or so.

So, I wanted to clear that up cause I don't have any problem admitting when I'm wrong. Unfortunately, now that I know for fact that the way knockdown works for me is the way it is working for all of you, I don't share the opinion that it is a horrible game stopping problem. It's a challenge, it may be over done, but its not the end of the world either. Got along just fine last night. See before now I thought that the rest of you were saying that it was 200 points off of each single pool, cause some people were saying how they could only knockdown three times before being dead, etc. And that would have been for more serious. But 70-80 points off a pool for a style to me just isn't a game stopping issue. It needs looked at, but it's not the end of the world.

But unequiping and re-equiping is a work around I am sure they will nerf that soon.

Laurianna, I agree with the statement about action. I noticed the same thing. This pool is now getting hit pretty hard for me as well. I can accept this to some extent because at least it can be healed. However, this is bad news for my wife since I am now forcing her to log off DAOC earlier to help kill stuff faster
