Thread: TKA vs. Pistoleer (not about PvP)
I'm a Master Smuggler, I've just mastered the Pistoleer Chain and I'm pretty upset that I can't even fight a lair worth of Dark Blue Cons without getting killed or incap'ed. I was thinking of switching to TKA and was wondering if your Defense Mods and Toughness actually work or are bugged like in other professions? Alsowas wondering if your specials actually work, unlike Pistoleers, and are worth using? And the final thing, can anyone give me an idea of what creatures you are able to tank when you master TKA?
Thanks in advice to those who respond!
-Master Smuggler -Master Gunfighter (for now)
solo i can take on 1 giant baz nitch. 2 take me out.
w/ a pet i can take 3. or a group of 10 mixed mutant and reg baz.
5 in a group of ancient, mature an reg fliers.
the biggest prob w/ any tka is ranged attack mobs. our unarmed toughness only protects from melee.
haven't mastered yet. and too busy grinding on baz to find out what else i can take on.
If by Tanking you mean "keeping the mob occupied while your ranged friends attack it" I'd have to say that it depends on your group. I'vetanked an ancient bull rancor in a group of 4 (2 were docs); but I've also been killed on a bad pull of arachs on endor in a bad group.
If you mean "what can you solo?" the answer again dependson your character. Not all Master TKA's are made equal. Stats and secondary skills play a huge roll in what you can expect to take. I mean, the above poster got in trouble with more than 1 giant baz. I've come back from a bathroom break where a lair popped on my group only to find myself in combat with 3 of themwhich I barely dispatched (and then proceeded to rez my group).
All in all, there is no easy answer. But there are alot questions that you have to ask yourself...
Are you going to wear armor?
Do you like to spam specials?
Do you use buffs?
Did you migrate your stats to support taking some hits to the head?
Master the art, experiment with it, THAT is what's fun about this game!
At 0-4-4-2 i was taking 3-4 giant baz nitches at a time. With only a rock beetle to tank. At 0-0-4-1 i was killing 5-7 huurtons at a time with said rock beetle. At 0-4-4-2 i was doing 3 pickets at a time with the same rock beetle.
What i'm trying to say is that if you play smart, and use all your tools you can level just as fast as any range profession. I had to get a rock beetle pet due to the fact i only have 780 hp. As a twilek i don't have good stats, i choose to place 1100 in mind, 500/500 in it's sub stats, rest i place in health and action so i think i got 780 in them, something like that. With some armor i can tank 2 giant baz nitches for alittle bit, using stims, no buffs. But the down time was horrible. "Tanking" will slow your exping, and lets face it we all want to see progress.
All in all i think you are asking if you can gain xp like a pistoleer. And i say yes, i think you can do it faster than a pistoleer. I made master in less than a week. Why? Becuase it was soooo much fun, i didn't bother with anything else. TKA is just awesome in it's own right. I've played atleast every profession and i have to say tka is my fav
Nothing like getting 5 giant baz nitches swarm around you and your pet beetle and taking em all down at the same time gaining 24k unarmed xp a pull. Makes people's head turn, heh
