Thread: Stuff all TKA should know concerning nerf
I completely agree, Nebris. I really do not understand everyone's whining and frustration. I had KD before the nerf, yes it was nice for xp, yes it made most encounters ridiculously easy. It was imbalancing.
I agree with ALL the changes that have been made. I feel the HAM costs on KDs and timers are fine for PvE (I will not go into PvP with this post). I do nothing but solo on Dantooine and Dathomir. Ihave no problems doing it (granted I am also Master Brawler/almost master medic). I think that if you guys would just try utilizing some of our other under-rated tools you would be suprised.
A typical fight for me goes like this:
At 18m (out of aggro range of the creatures I fight) I Intim1 or 2
Back up and pull with bowcaster
Blind, Stun,Dizzy,Lunge1
Equip knucklers
Bezerk 1 (Bez 2 lasts way too long)
When Bezerk fades, unequip VKs and either Lunge1 or Warcry2.
Re-equip VKs, Bezerk and finish him off.
I get 5k xp per.
I am not trying to argue or discount your complaints. I just wanted to share some more positive info. I cannot WAIT to log in with the new DMG changes. I am not in any way reliant on posture changes so I could care less about the timers.
Stupidfly, what server do you play on? I would love to see you fight (not that I'm not trusting you).
But to see some positve "changes" or "experience" is REALLY needed right now.
I'd love to continue TK. I love it, it's great base for roleplay and it's abit unique in a way.
But at the moment, spending maby 100rds of hours on a character this uncertain is highly questionable.
Muppet, I play on Radiant. My avatar name is Vertiblade.
By the way, I would like to add, when I used the term 'whining' I was referring to those who feel KD being nerfed destroyed our class and feel it should be restored. Many Valid points are made concerning problems our class has.
On the subject of KD. Alot of folks said KD was great for crowd control on big pulls. I use the term pull as I played EQ and thats what leading creatures back to your group is called. If you do not currently hunt this way, you should start. If you CANNOT single pull and avoid crowd control situations you need to practice pulling. I can single pull most anything except humanoids sometimes (which is negated by the high dmg they take when dizzy/lunge is applied). You just have to spend some time learning the nuances of each type of creature.
We are melee. Crowd control is not in our job description; controlling aggro is.
I have to be first to admit. I became tka because I loved the class itself. My mentality wasn't for power. I realized after the first week of playing unarmed that it was powerful(which was really a plus!). I know a lot of people who are not quite passionate about tka, they just lust the power hence nerfing is a HUGE deal. I would too if I was in their shoes, I guess that's definitely the difference between me and them.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be super powerful but as I said before, I had gotten trees off every brawler elite class. I have to say, those other classes need desperate help. They simply are horrible. All the nerfs on tka are hurting them exponentially. So I can't complain knowing that.
It's really not that trivial why soe is doing what they are doing as far as patching. I'm sure everybodyagrees too. Rather they agree with them is another issue. Changes are annoying at first, but actually forcing to change play style gives a little spice in the class. So it's not the same old thing.
The real reason I posted was because I thought everybody seemed like they were blinded by the nerf and there was no light at the end of the tunnel. There is definitely still work that has to be done with balancing but at the rate things are going, I'm excited to see the game in 6 months.
I'm not here to complain about how the nerf will "kill" melees, since 90% of you have already done a pretty good job at that. I'm here to tell you there are stuff everybody is overlooking, and hopefully help some of you in your dilemma to adapting changes.
I'll briefly give some info about my background. I was probably one of the first TKA master on bloodfin. I actually got to experience how powerful the firstkdbefore the first nerf. I could run into a group of 6 red conmobs and kill them without a single scratch on me.
Once I started PvP with my mastertka against other tka, it would usually be the firstkd executed wins. It was a disaster as far as pvp goes for tka vs tka, master has no advantage over a novice who has the first KD skill as far as pvp goes. As far as npc goes, mtka couldsolo any mob from kimo, krayt, or dark jedi master.
I went on to build the ultimate brawler, which required me to grab all the kd defense from each elite brawler class tree. 95 kd defense, 100 pc defense. Basically as far as brawler pvp goes, kd practically never worked on me and I was unbeatable in duels. Instead of complaining about kd, I went to compensate it at cost of skill points(a lot of it!) Practically I would win duels all the time even against ranged within 20m. The patch before this last one, they made kd high ham, I adapted and used lunge2 and unarmed dizzy to have the same effect in pvp.(Btw, don't even think about pvp with a brawler without lunge2, you have no chance.)
Anyways, to keep this short to the point, even in this patch there are definitely ways to still be very effective. As tka, you just have to depend more on your other skills. In the 75% reduction patch, it forced me to use other skills I never really used before such as unarmed dizzy, stun, blind and intimidate.
Those specials are going to be HUGE in this patch as far as pve(they help in pvp too but have to be more selective). Basically if you can't kd stuff, you have to depend on the mob not hitting you as hard. TKA has good defense(though I'm not sure if range/melee defense does anything really.. :\), you can take a bunch of hits with mobs before you go down. If you make use of other parts of the game, such as awesome food, doctor buffs and new lower encumbrance armor, you can still be very successful as tka. Tkas just can't depend on the kds anymore, have to really use some of their tanking skills from now on. Our variety of skills are needed for our survival(from extinction?! ha!).
Here's a quicktip in mob fighting:
-Try using kd2 first
-rather the mob goes down or not, not an issue. Hopefully it's dizzy(if not dizzy it with unarmed dizzy 1), try using lunge2 if you are master brawler, if not skip to the next step
-use unarmed blind, stun and intimidate(in particular order)
-you'll realize the mob will do about 1/4 the dmg it usually does(it misses a lot too). It'll definitely keep you alive for these low cost specials. It helps to bring food with you, high regens will save you more times than you will ever imagine.
-if need to, you can use warcry once in a while in substituding kd. Though watch out for ham cost.
I know the above doesn't apply to everybody but it's just an example, adjust to your own individual style.
As far as pvp goes, your best chance is getting within 20m and lunge2 then dizzy. 99% of ranged players have little or no posture change defense. Warcry might keep you alive if you ever get in 20m range. I haven't tested how inaccurate ranged gets while on the run this patch, hopefully it's really inaccurate so you can get in 15m for lunge. But ya, I have to say it'll be harder to pvp as tka, use your lunge/kd wisely.. Keep in mind that ranged kd/pc suffers the same penalties with delays so it's probably not as bad as most of you think.
Don't give up if you are atka lover.. ![]()
Do you have any char on Eclipse would love to talk to someone who still have fait. =D
