Thread: Mitigation Levels Vs. Skill Levels from TC
I just went to review the changes on TC...The Mitigation seems to be an added ability that is not called upon or clicked on...It appears not to be connected with any weapons so it further fuels by believe that the Mitigation type is not dependent on what type of weapon you hold (or do not hold)...as in, if I arm a Pistol or go unarmed, I'll still have Ranged Mitigation. It is interesting that Commando will get Melee Mitigation when it's considered a ranged profession. I saw not evidence of stacking so I highly doubt that as a possibility. I was also unable to test whether the 2.5x Melee Damage bonus was still in effect when fighting fighting ranged professions (but I have heard various reported it may be gone).
Here is what I found on a few professions...you'll get the basic idea...
TKA:
At Balance 1 you get Melee Damage Mitigation 1
At Balance 3 you get Melee Damage Mitigation 2
At Master TKA you get Melee Damage Mitigation 3
Commando...
At Field Tactics 1 we get Melee Damage Mitigation 1
At Field Tactics 3 we get Melee Damage Mitigation 2
At Master Commando we get Melee Damage Mitigation 3
Pistoleer...
At Pistol Tech 1 you get Ranged Damage Mitigation 1
At Pistol Tech 3 you get Ranged Damage Mitigation 2
At Master Pistoleer you get Ranged Damage Mitigation 3
Rifleman:
At Concealment 1 you get Ranged Damage Mitigation 1
At Concealment 3 you get Ranged Damage Mitigation 2
At Master Rifleman you get Ranged Damage Mitigation 3
Smuggler:
No Mitigation Noted but I have heard they are suppose to get Melee Mitigation as well.
Carbineer:
Similar to Rifleman with Ranged Damage Mitigation.
ah ok well there goes the plans of having an uber comando/tka template
hehe
I agree...I'm actually kind of concerned about Melee Mitigation for Commandos...not because it hurts them (or my template...although that does irk me...lol)...but on the off chance the 2.5x Melee Damage Bonus is removed, then Melee Classes (like TKA) will not onlydo less damage, but what damage they do will be mitigated...And if that Melee opponent doesn't have any ranged mitigation, then Commando's willstill do full damage (commando's are considered currently as a ranged profession)...this is unless they makeCommando's do Melee Damage (which seems kind of odd)...This will lead us all back in the the NERF Wars.
From TH's patch notes:
Added to-hit bonus for melee vs. ranged weapon attacks. This is a replacement for the damage multipliers and a sub-feature for the damage mitigation addition. If you use a ranged weapon against a melee combatant, you are easier to hit.
Let me put it in simple terms.
Mitigation levels do not stack. If you get melee mitigation1 on commando and melee mitigation1 in tka, you get a total of melee mitigation1. Or commando melee mitigation2 and tka melee mitigation 1, you get the total mitigation of 2 (because commando's is higher than the tka's).
Now, as far as commandos getting melee mitigation, here's the catch:
They still have the 2.5x modifier. The melee mitigation will dampen down the effect..at master commando, mitigation3 will eliminate the 2.5x modifer completely and give the commando like .5 BONUS (not penalty) vs melee damage.
TKA oth, wil melee mitigation they'd get the equivalent of a 3X melee damage bonus on TOP of thier unarmed toughness. So in essence, a TKA will have like 8X melee damage reduction where commando will have .5x melee damage reduction total.
that makes sense to you now?
ya it dos thx
but thats sooooooooooooo dumb commandos have to master mark men they should have 3 range and 1 melee not all melee thos devs dont even think at all
aside from the fact that we wont get hit for crap against melee attackers with like an 80-90% damage reduction with toughness and mitigation.

It doesn't need to be logical. It needs to be balanced.

If commando's should get Melee Mitigation because they are close range, then why do they currently suffer from the 2.5 Melee Damage Bonus that all Ranged fighters do. Commando's are Ranged fighters who's specials are work at Melee range...lol...but this isn't the Commando forum...so i'll stop there...lol
All I can say (and I'm a Commando) is giving commando's Melee Mitigation and removing (or reducing) the 2.5x Melee Damage Bonus is possibly giving to much advantage to Commandos...TKA damage down to a Commando is reduced, but Damage from a Commando to a TKA is full.
Giving Commando's Ranged Mitigation instead of Melee Mitigation would better balance, especially with the proposed changes the the 2.5x Melee Damage Bonus.
