Hey , wuts up all. To make it short, from wut I've heard lately tka's r supposedly horrible in comparison to other melee classes, (swordsman and pikeman), in PvE. As a player im not too interested in pvp, and thought tka was supposed to be great against PVE, thats why i took it up, and its been great so far, since u hear so much about soloing krayts and all. Soooo is TKA the best at PVE or wut is?

Thanks

My template is pretty good for soloing most stuff. I can solo pretty far into the geo caves (minus the kwi's and kliks, which take forever to kill). I can solo anything on Dathomir cept for the NS Elder and the SMC equivalent, with buffs, food, drink, armorand spice.

In groups I make an excellent tank, and will often not use any attack specials, but simply dodge and save my HAM.

I believe it's a good combo with the Fencer side that helps me do all these things. TKA's by themselves have defense holes (Dizzy and KD being the largest ones).

Every profession has its place (to some degree). I have masted all melee professions except pikeman and so far Heavyswordsman was the most effective at PvE (when added to master brawler), but all melee professions can be powerful if you add master brawler to the template. TKM, on its own, is decent at PvE until you start hitting the higher kinetic resist stuff. Solo'ing Krayt Dragons is not as easy as it used to be because of the warcry nerf. Its still possible if you have some CM in your template I suppose, but I'd bet its hard to solo them now (especially as a melee'er). My opinion is that TKA's are at their best when fighing NPC's and PC's. If you are a melee'er who uses all the tools available to you (including brawler skills), you should be just fine. Just be sure you are having fun at it.

The claim that we "suck" in PvP is quite simple and boils down to one thing:

Our damage is all kinetic. That's it. End of story. When every heavy PvPer is at LEAST wearing high powered Ubese, and most likely 80%+ composite, you hit for little teeny tiny numbers. Since they are all doctor buffed as well, those teeny tiny numbers hitting anything but Mind is pointless. Because of brandy and spice (and entertainer boosts) those teeny tiny numbers aren't good enough to deal with the guy who dabbled in Marksman for Rifle 2 and zaps you with an AP1 jawa rifle on the "You Don't Have No Armor Now" stun damage ticket. It's not that you can't smash the guys Mind pool (Pistoleers don't even have a Mind shot, ugh!), it's that you can't kick out damage near as fast as anyone NOT using a kinetic attack with is everyone else.

Buffs, heavy armor, and stun damage are really making PvP nuts right now, and anyone not using all three of them is screwed. It's not about TKAs sucking, just anyone who doesn't have stun damage attacks will get owned by someone who does 9 times out of 10. Think of who the scariest people to run into are?

People with stun damage mind attacks.

ive just went down this road and it has two parts if its a solo mob then tka if its a large group then swordsman but as i found out they both work very well together so get both add brawler and your in heaven

i asked the exact same question and the answer is get both if you want to go melee forget rifleman which is the best none melee class

but if you want to be uber pvp then as i also have found out its rifleman and combat medit ?

Oh, queue up the entrance of the "If you suck and PvP play PvP_Template_23" idea. I don't PvP myself. I'm a doctor/tka... if I ever DO join the PvP, I'll be the guy in the back rezzing the fallen and trying not to draw too much attention to myself. The simple, blunt fact is that I want to play a Doctor/TKA. I've never seen on any other board that you need to back up your class if you don't like your damage type. Fencer, Swordsman, Pikeman, Pistoleer, Carbineer, Rifleman, Commando, Bounty Hunter. (Did I miss any?) In none of them do I recall seeing, "If you don't like using energy shots, then pick up some TKA so you can do kinetic."

It's the ONLY class (actually I guess there's Jedi, right?) that has one damage type. EVERY combat class has some form of option, some good, some expensive, some broken, some cheap. But as a TKA if you want to not suck in PvP you must dabble in another class. The only thing you're really gaining from TKA is the defenses and meditation--the offensive abilities from a PvP standpoint are a joke. So you have the split camp--one camp would like another damage type without having to play a second class, and the other camp thinks you should have to play another class for extra damage types.

Camp 1 gives the combat class with the smallest contribution to PvP (even a Pistoleer can spam random pool stun shots) the ability to enter the arena. Personally I don't think it should be restraint (though it makes sense) because nothing resists it--but something would help. Camp 2 keeps PvP enjoyment (yes I said enjoyment) restricted to those who dedicate their whole template to it. If the Rifleman/Combat Medic is going to own the starport for 30 minutes unscathed, fine. But I'd like to feel like it MATTERED that I hit him with everything I had. (Note, I don't PvP, I just watch this very thing happen over and over.) The TKA is always the guy I see running around the battlefield picking off people that just got rezzed and aren't buffed yet.

If we ever get a second damage type I'll probably join in the PvP, but right now, decked out with full buffs, chugging brandy, snorting spice, and wearing full composite at MD/TKM, my girlfriend's MD/Pistoleer (0041) can drill a hole in my ass without blinking. I knock her down and spam the **edit** out of mind hit, she calmly removes dizzy then blows fist-sized holes in me because I can't stop her stun/acid/heat/insert damage type. My mind pool will empty from her random shots faster than my targetted blows will drop her through the kinetic shield.

In response to the original post...

I believe TKM owns PVP and is horrible in PVP...

Everyone figured out how to stack KD defense and how to wear 80% comp. Damnit!

Nothing....absolutely NOTHING, owns more than swordsman in PVE...get a nice stack of two handed speed tapes, a nice damage sliced power hammer, and you will own every possible thing in PVE. I gurantee it.
