Okay, since I can't find a general forum that I can put this in, I'll put it right here. If you want to assist another person, you must target them, wait for them to attack, then push /assist. The helpfiles even state that you can use "/assist name" to bypass the need to target the player, but I'm sure you all know this is false! This can't be a hard piece of code to fix--"/assist name" should automatically target someone and assist them, preferably changing your "look at" target to your "combat" target after assisting. Right now, to duplicate this same action, you need a macro of the following:
/ui action targetGroup#; (0-9 for group member, starting at 0)
/assist;
/pause 1;
/ui action untarget;
This will cause you to target the group member you indicated, the first member of your group (besides you) is 0, and 1, 2, 3 etc. The second line actually assists them, causing you to start attacking their combat target--if they have a combat target. If they do not have a combat target (something that is at least fighting them, whether or not they are fighting back) assist will not do anything. Assuming they are fighting, then you will immediately target and startattacking their combat target. The /pause is to give a moment for your character to actually start attacking, then the last line clears your "look at" target (the player you assisted). If you clear your look-at target while you have a combat target, then it becomes you look-at target immediately. For anyone who didn't know, all special moves target your look-at target, not your combat target. If you execute an offensive special on a look-at target, it becomes your new combat target.
All this could have been done already if "/assist name" actually worked. Please post this to whatever boards you feel it will help people, because I'm getting really tired of e-mailing this assist macro to everyone I group with.
