How are you guys fighting ranged-only NPC's? Mob that have a ranged and melee mode are easy, once you get into range, they drop into melee mode and stay still.

Ranged only mobs, like Stormtroopers, will kite you, running up and down hills in random directions.

I have a real problem:

keeping them in range
WHILE
changing direction constantly
WHILE
hitting keys for specials
WHILE
keeping them on the screen on hills

How are you guys doing this?

It seems like every time I get in range and slap a special, they've veered off. Or I spend more time trying to keep them on the screen than I do fighting.

Easy.

Have the /follow command on your taskbar, and when you target them immediatly hit the follow button. Try using lunge to stop them, or just stop following them completely and make them follow you. You should get a good pet to tank them first, if they start running yell the follow command, let your petstop, turn around, and let the enemy turn aroundand go after the pet. When this happens, yell attack command and they SHOULD stop running. Hope this helps.

Hmm, I've tried follow but with little success. The problem is that you stop running and drop to walking speed before you get into combat range.

I do use lunge as much as possible, but it seems like I'm doing a lunge for every hit or two I get in before they start running again. That drains my HAM so fast that I get incapped long before the mob is very damaged.

I understand that CH is the key to every profession, but I'd like to be able to take a white con ranged NPC solo as a TK. That should be very doable.

For the record, I'm a CH so I can kill these guys at will with my pet. But that doesn't really help me learn to operate as a TK.

It's called don't run after them. Go hide behing something to block the LOS and then they will come back after you.

This may be true with players, but I find that NPC's either wait forever in one spot or lay down and start sniping you through the object. There will be the occasional ST that will run up to you to clear the LOS, but as soon as he gets hit, he'll begin kiting again.

So, if I need to kill it to complete a mission, I *must* approach them at some point. At which time they get up and start kiting me.

Note that I'm only talking about the ranged-only mobs, not the ones that will drop into melee mode.

I'm not saying to go CH and all your problems will be answered (although, it does feel that way =P). All you could do is get a good rock beetle or mountain krevol.

When you catch up to them, and start slowing down to walking speed, you should be punching at the same time, I've noticed that a few times, and theywill stop sometimeswhen you do that walking punch. But, they shouldn't run forever, they will stop eventually. This is all I can tell you...
