Thread: Anyone use traps?
wire mesh traps eh? very interesting. i honestly doubt anyone has tried that, since any tka with trapping skill likely has glow wire traps. but i am going to give that a try, just for the heck of it ![]()
i don't like the glow wire traps anyway, i'm a master ranger and they fail nearly 50% of the time (that is sooo frustrating when you can't trap a chuba with +100 trapping mod).
Yes, i use the wire mesh traps quite a lot, combined with stun it lowers the MOBs defense quite a bit.

I use traps all the time. They have become my ranged weapon. I maskscent, walk upto within 40m of thenearest critter, throw my trap and as they're running towards me de-buff them. Works like a charm when they stick (no exact figures but guessing 70% of the time).
If you have socials in a small cluster, using a Phenanine (I think that's it) Dart or adhesive mesh will stick one of them to the ground while the other one charges you. This is a harder technique to master as you must immediately switch to the charging creature for de-buffs, but I'm working on it.
Traps vs players wouldn't be cool cause everyone would get them and make life miserable. on the upside, kiters would get screwed.
When I have to choose, I go for the stinkbombs.
I used to use the glow wires, but they don't seem to be any better on the melee side, and I don't use a gun so that part is wasted. Also, since they are a higher level trap, they cost more to make, and fail more.
Traps are one of the best ways I've found to crank up your Combat XP. You get end up with Combat XP that is 1/2 the value you get for Unarmed XP, if you volley about 4 or 5 traps at a MOB.
The only ones I rely on are Wire Mesh and Stink Bombs. Seems to make a huge difference. Of course, if you are up against more than 1 or 2 MOBs, it's a bad idea.
FYI, traps can really wipe out your AP in a hurry, so bear that in mind. I find that it's a great way to "play" with my prey when they are running away -- it just raises your Combat XP higher and higher and higher ...
