Thread: what am i doing wrong on my quest for novice tka?
Hi well i have unarmed 4 and am working towards novice tka, but i must be doing something wrong. I say that because i have been going to dath with friends and doing kamurith lairs for the xp, when i use just my pistol, i can easily get 3k xp per....yet when i'm going at it unarmed i only get 200-300xp! I'm spamming unarmedstun since a mtka friend of mine told me that is what i should spam
So could anyone help me out? i really want to hit novice tka
The best exp I got when I was trying to make it to Novice TKA was partnering with another melee character who was about the same level. He was trying to get exp in Pikeman since it was the last branch on his way to Master Brawler. We were able to kill Dune Banthas easily (they don't group up)and they were very fast exp. We also did Ronto lairs (only the bulls group up). Since I was close to getting Novice TKA he let me kill off the lairs by myself, which were about 3000 exp each. Before that I did solo missions (zucca boars I think) which is slow but steady exp. Large groups are bad since the people with guns kill the mobs way too fast for you to do any damage. Not that you can do much damage anyway at that level. I made the mistake of going on a krayt hunt once when I was working toward Unarmed 4 - nothing but scouting exp on that one and a couple of incaps. If you find yourself in a large group try berserking whenever you can and stand a bit farther away from the mob so as not to take aggro from the pets that are tanking (a sad but true reality).
Take heart in the fact that once you finally make it to TKA it is really worth it.

Get a firearm.
Get a fast vibroknuckler.
Go toa deserted newbie area... say, outside Kor Vella.
Make a macro to do this:
/target outward, Shoot target, follow target, switch to vibroknuckler, watch television
Do this about 3,000 times and you'll reach TKN. Then it's a whole new ballgame.
HI all, from my obsevations xp is based on damage done. I was running defiler mission on Dath with some friends and only getting 300-500 xp/kill. I was able to get better xp of regular Womp Rats, hehe. So i ran missions with them to make money but made the better part of my xp soloing. When your pals can seriously out damage you, your xp will be minimal. Also, i found better xp when just using the default attack. It saved on my HAM with the VK's and hit faster than when trying to spam specials.

You sure can. Just because you aren't certified for it does't mean there are not any benefits to using it. If you get a fast one, it increases your speed and still keeps the same damage.
Get a good set of 2.x/130+ VKs, you get a free speed enhancement at the cost of extra HAM on specials. Also, if you start in Theed, most likely there is a doctor buffing stats at the starport, get some. At that point, all you have to worry about is mind drain on specials unless you go to the cantina and get entertainer buffs as well.
This can be applied to just about any starter planet, but Naboo is the one I'm most familiar with.
If you go up against a big, red critter, open up with a bleed, then stun, blind and intimidate the creature, then switch to VKs and let it rip. Even easier if you find a partner who will heal you and keep the critter intimidated - can be done from range, so he or she will not take any exp.
Although at unarmed 4, I'd look for easy critters who spawn en masse and still give decent exp - better kill 5 newbie critter with no downtime than spend 5 minutes finding and killing onelarge critter. I'd not go to adventure planets yet but stay at starter planets also.
