I'm TKM and wondering about getting master fencer and pikeman 0040 for the dodge and block bonuses. So if i'm using my VK to beat on someone will i still dodge and block stuff?

No, where is why.
Dodge is active when a pistol/one-handed weapon is equipped.
Block is active when a rifle/polearm weapon is equipped.
Counter-attack is active when a carbine/two-handed weapon is equipped.
A vibro knuckler doesnt count as 1-handed, it is considered unarmed. So we have defense acuity, but at the moment, and for the next 4 years, it will suck.
So while unarmed, to avoid being hit, take advantage of all the states we are able to put on our targets.

Defensive acuity does allow you to do all three regardless of what weapon you have. The problem is that when acuity fires off it checks what your highest skill level is in one of those areas and sees whether you succeed. This means that a pure TKA will never block, dodge, or counter attack no matter how good defensive acuity is. The solution is to get a high level of one of those skills by developing another profession. For example, mastering pistol would give a good chance of dodging when DA fires.

Me no understand (coming from a MBH background, we don't understand the concept of defense
). So what you're telling me is that as a TKA it'll take your highest skill mod in either dodge, counter-attack or block. So if I was Master Brawler, TKM, Master Swordsman I'd have a counter-attack mod of +110? But, it would be worthless to pick up the dodge line of Fencer because it would only add up to +75 and be overridden by counter-attack no matter what weapon I had equipped?
Is this true?

That's how it was explained to me. Of course, the guy who told me that is reminding me as I write this, that DA is borked anyway. What I described is how it's supposed to work. Unfortunately, it doesn't work at all.

Actually I asked a CSR and he said that dodge from fencer works, even if you are weilding a weapon from any profession.

Well I know from experience that some does work. While grinding professions I always kept TKM. The time that I noticed that it worked was while I was TKM/Master Carbineer. I was in a friendly duel with someone I usually lost to. After the duel (which I won) he comented on how many times I counterattacked. As I read the combat screen it showed me that I counterattacked about 50% of the time.

I noticed a very big increase in how often I counter attack now that I have dropped Master Fencer and took back TKM. Due to that, I'd say defensive aquity works quite well.
