Currently I am a novice pikeman and am wanting to go tera kasi instead. I was wondering what profeshion would actully be better before / after combat balance. Any opinons would be helpful in my dicshion. Alsom does any one know of a quick way to grind out combat xp for the fs novice skills?

Without being speed capped. TKM
If you are/can get speed capped. Pike.
That is strictly from a damage perspective though...the utility that each of them offers is not part of that opinion.

Why not both? Unless you are pursuing a ranged profession. I know people who ae TK/Pikeman and have no problems.

Im a TKM/ Speed Capped Pikeman, i love it so much because we have versatility of choosing Electricity dmg or Kinetic. But 99% of the time i use Pikeman mainyl because its faster to clear out janta/mokk missions (sometimes in 30 sec or less) and the animations are cool as hell. The only time i really use TKM is for tanking and after i put on my mind dots when pvping. also, meditate is da shi't.

I just surrendered Pikeman to learn TKM and I am having much more fun with TKM than I ever had with Pikeman. I loved the animation of Pikeman and it was great against PvE. I could grind weapons experience at a rate of 450 K per hour with Pikeman using Area 2 attack. But I could never hit anything in PvP. Pikeman is too slow and you never any Pikeman standing outside of Theed Spaceport challenging duelers.
Just my 2 cents, but I'm glad I made the switch to TKM and will never go back to Pikeman. But ultimately it comes down to you have to do what you like and what you feel comfortable with.
And I wouldn't worry about the so called, "combat balance". As with anything else, they are likely to keep changing the rules, even a few days before public release. So until they actually release it to the 'Live' servers there isn't anything we can really plan for. If I had to guess, Pikeman couldn't suck anymore than it does so its probably going to be a lot better after the Combat Balance. Just a guess as I hvan't read anything about it, nor do I intend to until after it comes out.

TKM is the easier one of the two, less complex as you dont really have all that much influence on the combat, in terms of tactics. Basically, with a Dizzy/KD, a head hit, and Unarmed Hit 3, you are gtg forever. The fact that you are pretty much independant from gear (since you are speed capped anyway, accurate, and much of your damage isnt coming from a weapon but from a skill modifier) and medics is another big plus.
I believe TKM is the most relaxed and least taxing of melee professions. That by itself can make it much more fun to persue other content in SWG, you never have to worry about camping for AAs / CAs and such.
Pikeman is more of a pain to gear up and make useful. Also, its not as independant as TKM. Its more challenging, but can be frustrating at first when you compare to TKM.
It also involves slightly more advanced tactics especially in the area of damage mitigation. You dont have the massive toughness, defense, and no Force of Will/Power Boost. So, you have to use specials to reduce enemy damage output.
I found Pikeman to be quite a lot worse if you dont have Master Brawler as well, since Intimidate and another bit of speed/toughness count for a lot.
Ultimately, its the more rewarding choice, but the way is a bit bumpy and requires more money, time, and patience.
Now before anyone starts to flame me... I played both professions, with and without Master Brawler. I decided to use TKM for the ease of use, to complement my BH template... mainly cause it lets me concentrate on other things than the right moves while duking it out with a Jedi and his friends. The KD 2 is incredibly easy to use and spam.
But I have to say Pikeman requires a bit more dedication.

huh, pike faster than tkm on janta missions?
I still have trouble seeing anyone who can whack a janta mission faster than a tkm. I dont know if its just me but 15 sec is about the avg on a janta pole to whack them silly, tho pike and swords have another dmg type than tk. But still if the mob doesnt have a very high kinetic I always sink the mobs faster than my other melee friends do. So my suggestion is to go tkm for all the fun and then have a slave prof that do dmg to mobs tk cant hurt.

Jantas are all vulnerable to kinetic and go down easy with dizzy/KD. The only way I can see a pikeman doing better is with a really high damage (kinetic) weapon, speed tapes, and their really nice area attacks.
