As far as I was aware unarmed COB did like nothing! But I have just read a post where some guy says that you should always be using it. Does anyone know what the dealio is here? If we should use it, if it does anything! What it does?

it helps just a teensy tiny itty bitty bit so if you're not buffed don't bother

It improves your chances of getting Defense Acuity to work. You'll notice it working when you get more blocks/counterattacks/dodges in combat.
However it's not a substantial increase, especially when compared to the way COB works for other melee professions.
