Unarmed damage apparently works, although some people have reported now difference.

i bought an armor attachment about 2 months ago, it was def vs. dizzy and unarmed speed..unarmed speed was greater...and the attachment was broken.....i sent ticket into swg and they said they were aware of this problem and something that the devs are going to have to fix..and they said there is nothing they could do for me..lol..i lost 750k on that attachment....Ceasar ::::::sunrunner:::::::

Dunno, this is how attachments work.
1) Highest Value sticks. If 2 values are the same than
2) Alphabetical order.

I also believe that there's another way around that. For example, the unarmed damage score is higher so it would stick. But if you had a piece of clothing that had +10 unarmed damage on i already, and you added that attachment, the unarmed damage mod would be passed up and the droid (something) stat would stick.
You can't stack bonuses on the same item (though you can stack bonuses by wearing multiple items). If the attachment you're adding is higher than the bonus on the item, then it replaces the bonus. If the attachment you're adding is lower it ignores it.
We'll give an example... You have the following items:
1) Sports Wrap with +5 Ranged Defense and one slot available
2) CA with +4 Ranged Defense and +3 Unarmed Damage
3) CA with +6 Ranged Defense and +3 Unarmed Damage
4) CA with +6 Ranged Defense and +7 Unarmed Damage
If you add the first CA, the Ranged Defense is ignored because it's lower than what's on it, and the shirt becomes +5 Ranged Defense, +3 Unarmed Damage.
If you add the second CA, the Ranged Defense replaces the shirt's modifier and the Unarmed Damage modifier gets skipped, making the shirt +6 Ranged Defense.
If you add the third CA, the Unarmed Damage is higher and so it sticks making the shirt +5 Ranged Defense, +7 Unarmed Damage.
