Thread: I'M SICK OF THIS...

First off, let me start by saying that I enjoyed the first couple weeks of this game. I actually looked forward to playing each day, and a lot of the ideas excited. The concept sounded good on paper...but the execution is just piss poor.

Let me start with the bugs. Granted every game has bugs, but thats the reason for the beta of a game. This game had a long beta, and the development team had tons of time to work out the little bugs in the game that really make it seem unprofessional. Most apparent of these is the plethora of skills that either don't work or do not work like they should. Not only in the TKA profession - where we get "debuffs" that do next to nothing, but in most other profession. It you browse the boards here, every single profession has complaints about moves that simply do not work. Ex. Disarm shot 1 (which does nothing) and Disarm shot 2 (which is actually an area knockdown). Don't you think that this should have been fixed during beta, or in the first month of release at the latest?

Another thing that really bothers me is the lack of any kind of balance in this game. Not to single out bounty hunters or anything, but underhand shot is the most overpowered shot ever. And now look at me, a TKA master, who can be beaten by a Novice Marksman with a CDEF pistol in a 1 vs 1 duel. (I know some of you are going to say something like "use your head" or "hide behind buildings" but we shouldn't have to! I have gathered over 2 million unarmed experience and I can easily be beaten by someone who just found out how to equip their blaster. Give me a break people, this is ridiculous.

On with the ranting, the entire mechanics of the game are completely flawed. Allow me sum up the basics of PvM (Player vs Monster / Creature):

Knockdown - Attack - Wait for knockdown to wear off - Knockdown - repeat

Is this really how the game is going to be? Knockdown single handedly makes all player vs monster encounters obsolete. Yes I know your going to say that kimogilas and jedi are knockdown resistant, but you get 15 people spamming knockdowns, you can bet your ass they're going to fall over...and then that group of people will pull the Star Wars Rodney King on it, and we'll all be happy because we successfully killed a jedi.
On a similar note, let me explain the mechanics of PvP. In a melee vs melee situation, first knockdown wins. That or the person who gets off the first high level special attack wins (most people can kill in one shot). In a ranged vs ranged situation, its a little different...wait no it's not, its exactly the same. First person to knock down or score their ridiculously overpowered one-shot-kill move wins. Now ranged vs melee: run away while the melee hopelessy tries to catch up, not even bothering to use specials because it doesn't matter because they'll never catch you. And even if they do, they have to STOP moving, get ON TOP of you, and hit their special attack, all this before they become incapped from the blaster fire (TKA's cannot attack players while moving, and the range on knucklers is 1m). But of course they'll never stop running away so it bothering with hypotheticals doesn't really matter.

Now...this is enough to disgust me...but wait, theres more! Let's see, the end game...wait...what end game?! Now that I've mastered my skills, what do I get to do with them? I can endlessly grind on faction so I can get awesome armor and faction chairs! And with my awesome faction points I can take place in the great struggle that is the reason for SWG's title. But wait, didn't we go over this already...The PvP in this game is worthless! So that crosses out the brilliant end game battlefields concept and the awesomeness of walking through a city and killing the opposing side. Now what else can I do...oh I know! I can explore the excellently thought out planets where 10m from one of the outposts is exactly the same at 10000m from one of the outposts, and every monster in the game drops nothing except some lovely hides. Hmm...what else can I do now that I've ground to master of my profession...

In relation to the endgame, I can make lots of money because I can kick so much ass. I can take my million credits and buy...absolutely nothing with them! Standard money in this game will become so obsolete that you wonder why they even bothered to include it. But I can buy furniture and get cool houses and stuff so people will walk in and say "wow look how much money this person has and they can't find anything to do it. There's a reason why most of the master weaponsmiths and armorsmiths quit, and that's because they have so much money that's completely worthless (and weightless and non-existant as well) and there's no point to continuing their profession (see above).

Yay! Wow this rant is getting kind of long. You all must be wondering if I'm done yet...NOPE! Now we get to the community. Granted, I read the boards (I never usually post though, ya I'm a lurker) and most of you people are real nice and have some good ideas and respect each other, but In-game is a different story. Over half the people in this game would gladly use a stupid exploit or make themselves look like total A-holes to get slightly ahead in this game. An example: Dathomir is a great place to hunt. Me and my good friend were one of the first people to hunt there...then word of a lovely exploit got out. Apparently theres a way to attack a nest without having the creatures attack you, how great! Finally, a way for novice artisans to destroy level 65 missions for 10k each and get 5000 exp for killing the nest, all without getting scratched! Now the planet is swarmed with people, and I do one mission the legit way without passing 5 people using the exploit to get cheap exp. And for those who can't figure out the exploit (i'm not gonna say it duh), they run around and kill the nest while the creatures try to catch them and stop them, but by the time they do and kill the person, the nest is gone, theres 10k in the gay person's pocket, and they have a free ride back to town to do it all over again! How fun...

Now with the example above, imagine what will happen when PvP becomes mainstream and we have overt bounty-hunters in every city. People will camp the starport waiting for helpless people to load in and kill them while they're defenseless, they will wait in medical centers and kill people when they're wounded, they will join a covert imperial group and wait for them to attack rebels and then slaughter the unsuspecting group while they have a TEF. Don't say it won't happen because it will. People will do anything to get ahead, even the wrong thing, and theres nothing that any of us real gamers can do about it.

Now that I've vented my steam, let me ask you this: Do you think this game is complete? Were you sold an unfinished product? Shouldn't all these dumb bugs have been taken care of in beta? Instead of fixing the real problems with the game, the developers neft the number of melons you get when you start. Wow that was really overpowering, 3 melons - NERF NERF. This is a great use of developers time, which real problems like knockdown, broken specials, exploits that make money and exp obsolete, and the lack of an endgame are running rapant.

Now I know your reply to this will be "If you don't like the game...quit!" and I probably will, but the fact is that I paid 50 dollars, and now I have to wait another month before they stop billing me. I was sold an unfinished game, and some people are just too blind to see it...

Sounds like you should quit. I hate to say it, but obviously MMORPGs aren't for you.

Here's my answers to the questions in the second to last paragraph of your post.

Do you think this game is complete? Not yet, but this genre of game is never fully complete upon release. I don't know of a single one of the 5 MMORPGs I've played that was glitch-free when it was released.

Were you sold an unfinished product?Yes, it says right on the box that the game will change and evolve.

Shouldn't all these dumb bugs have been taken care of in beta? Sure, but the same people that are screaming about the "dumb bugs" are the same ones who would have screamed bloody murder if the game had been delayed.

Quit or quit not... there is no whining. - Yoda (I'm sure he must have said this at least once).

i agree, this game is an unfinished game.but i think the reason for its premature release was the outcry in the community for the game.i myself was very anxiuos i cant spell,to play this game.

my one beef is creature handling bugs.im a TKA and CH and my pets will stop walking in the desert for no reason.hey get hung up on walls in caves.i too hate the 1 shot kills and i do think people should be able to increase their stats.other than just migrating them around.

if it wasnt for all the whining and Bichin the kids do about classes being too powerfull, then maybe they would fix some of the mechanic bugs.who knows, this is starting to remind me more of WW2 online every month they claimed something new fangled.but yet still didnt fix the bugs that were in the game from day 1.

This game has a lot of cool things going for it (heck, it's star wars)... they have done an excellent job with some of the game. But, anyone who thinks there is any excuse for the horrible execution of this game is simply wrong. They violated man rules (obviously not to them) of MMORPG game design which have made this game completely imbalanced. They got greedy for money so they released it while everyone was hot for the product, if this is not the case than I really question the reasoning behind the release date. It's no surprise that the designer of SWG worked on UO, I just wish he would have learned something.

With that said, the game DOES have great potential and honostly I think that's the reason most people are still here. However, if things don't shape up in 6 months this game is history, at least for me.

I want to hear some sophisticated debate by people who actually graduated from grade school. The point that this game is surviving on an SWG license is a very very valid one. How many of you would have bought this if it were called "An Empire Divided" instead of "Stars Wars: An Empire Divided." I think that more than half of the population bought it because it contained the Star Wars name (even though when you analyze the game, it has very little to do with Star Wars).

Please, continue posting, I want to see some opinions. If anyone can back up their claims that I'm wrong, I am completely open to it. You might even convince me that I want to stay.

You know I was the biggest advocate of this game and was called a fanboi on many boards because of it. But sadly he's right. But, it's a month after release, I expect it can only get better. The thing that scares me is, if it took years and years to get to where they are, how long will it take them to fix the critical bugs, balance classes, and add new content? Maybe they can do it faster than I envision. I hope so. But seriously, I think many of the players are just arguing againstthis guybecause they want to believe it.

Yeah, I did Jabba's Palace. I can walk into his room now, not that it does anything for me. The entirety of the quests were, go to this guy, lead him back here. Okay some bounty hunter followed you guys here, go kill him. Repeat this process for about 6 levels of peons in order to just get into Jabba's room. This did nothing to challenge my skills.

Battlegrounds sounded so cool...but no one uses them. I found a cave once (PoI) and solo'd it. Was no different than running around the main map killing mobs. Most of the other quests I tried are broken. I don't even try PvP (Don't want to get ganked by newbie marksman). The economic system is all hosed. I am a Ranger but no one wants to pay what the hides/bones/meats I harvest are worth.

Architects are going to have no market and soon since housing doesn't decay. Droids are not necessary, 90% of the droids have absolutely no purpose. Bioengineers can create creatures that no one can use. Commando's are completely broken. Combat revolves around spamming one move. I actually do roleplay, but roleplaying is more than simply pretending to be a character. There should be a purpose.

Despite all this I am going to tough it out and hope things get better. I have beta tested MUDs and mmog's, and yeah this one has some of the best concepts by far. The key word here is concepts. They spent years developing the concepts and what seems like weeks on the implementation. While I argued against it, I begin to wonder if the motion capture effects and beautiful landscapes didn't take up more of the development effort than anything else, since that is by far the most redeeming qualities at the moment.

wow. yet another whaa whaa post. this is what, the 1,000,000th since release. and just when i thought things were getting a little better. dude you are about 3 weeks late on griping about things with the game. I'd rather you quit so that I don't have to hear you whining and complaining about things that hundreds of others have already complained about. and you want to hear a debate about the points you brought up? just read one of the numerous threads already posted on these issues and save this forum for pople who want to learn more about TKA, not how someone can take other peoples posts, and re-post them into a bigger pile of crap than they alreday were

Wow, yet another inflammatory post with nothing to offer, that's about the 1,000,000th one of those I've seen. And just when I thought someone would offer constructive criticism, they go and put in the same responses they usually get. You're about 3 weeks late on the flaming of people further along in the game than you. I'd rather you quit so I don't have to hear your flaming about things which you do not understand. And you want me to read the numerous threads already on these issues? I have, and most of them are filled with flames and nothing to dispute any of the points mentioned. Save these forums for people that want to have discussions, not how somoene can flame someone just like 99% of the other kidz in these threads.

Not only do I agree with the original poster 100% I also want to add:

They beta tested this game for nearly a year or more, right? What were the devs doing during this time because I honestly don't see how they could have fixed a single issue during that time.

Huge nerfs days after release... Was Balance not addressed at all during beta? Did none of the devs say to themselves, if you shoot someone for 1,500 health at a novice rifleman lvl there won't be much of a PVP chance in this game?

Exploits are so numerous that it's difficult NOT to find and use them. Just the other day I found that the traps I've been using are supposed to snare (slow down) not root.. I've been using them to root all this time thinking that was what they were supposed to do.

Bugs.. Everywhere you turn.

Content.. Non existant. Unless you count the occasional structure or landmark.

Seriously now.. How do caves with 4 or 5 mobs that are nearly the same mobs you can find right outside the cave count as a dungeon. Did these guys never play any othergame?

Look at the most successful online game. EQ.Each zone has a story.. Each dungeon has a purpose.Important mobs make status landmarks.Major mobs take planning to kill... Serious planningand huge effort.

This game is thinner than a sheet of paper.

  • Majormobs can be killed in groups of 10 withoutfear of death.

  • Death means absolutely NOTHING.. Even withtheir "death penalties" turned on.20K to insure everything? Big deal. I make 200K ina night.

  • XP comes WAY WAY WAY too fast.

  • Balance is completely non existant.

As a previous poster said.. The two words.. Star Wars... Those two words are the only reason this game hasn't gone the way of Anarchy Online already. Because of those two words we'll give chance after chance. But for how long.

If the devs haven't had time to actually fix one major line in this game during their 1 year beta what will they accomplish in the next 6 to 12 months. My guess is, not enough to keep the masses interested in this game.

I agree with the original poster.

BUT I think SWG does serve a useful purpose and I think many people will agree with me on this point.

Im an ex EQ veteran, I quit about the time my guild was going to Plane of Time. EQ was a great game but it doesnt hold my interest anymore. SWG can fill its place for a few months until EQ2 comes out. What I wanted more than anything in an mmorpg was a fresh start. Level the playing field so everyone was a noob and then go explore the game. SWG gave me a fresh start and it was worth the money i payed for it, for now anyways.

When EQ2 comes out tho I will be cancelling my account unless they put SWG on the station pass deal they have which includes EQ and EQ2.

Have fun with this game for now. Its not a serious MMORPG its just a fun time waster pretty much. When they come out with speeder bikes and stuff it will be fun just to run around exploring the planets and so on.

Its an easy game. Theres very little death penalty. MOBs require little to no strategy to kill. THat doesnt mean its not fun for a while, heck look at diablo. I think this game is somewhere in between EQ and Diablo with a splash of Staw Wars thrown in for fun.

Its not terrible gamebut its a far cry from EQ.

You people saying "Another waa waa post" need to wake up and smell the coffee. The game is far far away from its potential. Things will change but it will take time. I mean, look at it this way, you if you're seeing alot of posts like this, maybe thats an indication that what they are saying is actually true? Blind faith is a pretty bad thing when it comes to computer games.

As an aside, I myself am still enjoying the game, but I have not rushed it as much as the original poster. I am about 1/3 of the way up the TKA tree, but what he tries to indicate is right. After the xp grind, there isnt that much more to do (yet). Reguardless, if you ain't having fun, then stop wasting your time, but if you are having fun don't worry about the naysayers.
