Thread: Ideas On How We Can Make PVP More Fun and Our Class Useful
I just achieved TK novice 2 days ago, and I don't plan on giving up on TKA. Being a martial artist in real life, this was the class I wanted to play the moment I bought the game. I have been reading alot of the posts here on what happens to us in PVP, and I have experienced these things myself (kiting, ranged knockdown, etc.) I agree that it is EXTREMELY frustrating. In light of these things I have thought of a few things that we can do without changing the current game to not only make our PVP experience more enjoyable, but will fit in with the background of the TK to allow us to better roleplay our character. Some may seem radical, but since they are player actions and don't involve dev intervention you can take it or leave it.
1) Only duel other melee fighters. As a martial arts practicioner I would never challenge nor accept a duel with a gunfighter. We did not reach the level we are at by being reckless and not choosing our fights wisely. I don't know about any of you guys, but I'm a huge fan of the old Akira Kurosawa samurai movies, where the warriors of the time would travel and fight duels with each other to test and improve their skills. Real life martial arts all have this sort of thing in the history of their development. If we all did this in game, it would be much more interesting for us. We would have to seek each other out, and establish rules (with or without VK, no DB, bow before begin, ect.) No kiting or ranged knockdown to worry about, both fighters on equal ground. The fights would be fun to watch by spectators as well. If we did this you would see fighter reputations emerge and higher respect given to our class. It would be alot of fun to hold an open tournament in a PA hall built for that purpose. I guarantee you would see some epic rivalries develop between famous fighters. Who wouldn't want to see a master TK against a master swordsman? How exciting would it be if a Teras Kasi student somehow bested a master? "But what about the GCW?" you might ask. That brings me to suggestion number two....
2) Whatever faction you choose, go covert. The very nature of our skills makes us more suited as covert agents and spies as opposed to random pistol fodder in open overt PVP. If we are used right we are tactically very valuable on a battlefield. As the opposing faction closes in, melee fighters could come behind them to stop them kiting the other players. We could also be assigned to guard the leader of the group in battle, maybe via /follow. (Think of the Imperial guards in the movies that guarded the emperor). If you are williing to use some points to pick up speciallist level in one of the 3 ranged weapons, you would be valuable on the battlefield in the protection role with the combination of your unarmed skills, ranged support, and bleed shot. (Stick by the VIP, and dot every target you can.) With scouting skills you are tailor made for reconaissance. Use your head!
3) You own in buildings, so protect them if they are in danger. Griefers from the opposing faction love to go into the cantinas and medical centers to kill, so make it your role during a raid to protect the people there to the best of your ability. This is in line with your character.
I think if we started doing some of these things as a class we would not only enjoy our playtime more, but would make the game better for everyone else as well.

If we're standing in a pistoleer's face we should be able to annihilate the guy, but unless the game gets a major combat overhaul it will always be impossible. So...let's just not give them the satisfaction anymore.
I'm trying to start a brawler only dueling event on Gorath...I think most of us became melee characters because we liked the idea of having a fair, face-to-face fight with an enemy and coming out victorious through skills and strategy.
Thanks guys.
Following up on the protect the VIP idea, I have an idea on an organized PVP battleground I posted on another forum they may interest TKA's as well.

I completely agree with the duel situation. I will never have a duel with a ranged fighter. It just won't be fun for me. Other melee classes though thats another story. That way people can't complain about being kited or anything like that just skill vs skill. Pretty good post.
It would be nice if those adhesive mesh traps I spent so much trapping experience on could maybe stop or stun a human...but nope, only nunas and rancors. Not to mention that all those "elite" *cough* bounty hunters would just trap us first and bleedshot us with impunity.
I guess we will see how it pans out when the patch goes live.
