Thread: I can see why they are nerfing knockdown, now do the same with kiting
Hey fellow TKA's,
Well I got master brawler first because I wanted berserk 2. It works very nice, lasts a couple minutes and hardly ever fails. Using berserk 2 and some self heals I could solo Baz Nitches usually without a problem. I would die every once and a while if one of them hit my mind bar over and over, but it was rare.
So last night I got unarmed knockdown 1, and I can understand why they are nerfing it. I took off all my armor, hit unarmed knockdown 1 ten times in a row, then equipped my VK's and killed a baz nitch, without getting hit once.
I realize that they still need to balance melee vs. ranged, but no class should be able to solo a red con without getting hit once. Yes, I know ranged users can do this, and this needs to be fixed. Maybe slow them down while shooting, or something similar.
But nobody should be able to solo a red con without getting hit once. Not ranged, not melee, nobody.
Why not? You are talking about elite beings who have dedicated their lives to combat arts vs. big, stupid vicious animals.
If I am an elite Pistoleer with amazing skills and an great weapon, then why should I not be able to take down a stupid dinosaur?
If I am an elite Teras Kasi with amazing skills and reflexes, then why should I not be able to take down a stupid spider?
In real life, cannot a hunter take down an animal of any size? Wouldn't that animal "con red" if it got it's paws on him? For example, didn't Louis and Clark kill loads of grizzly bears with their Kentucky long rifles? Actually, that is a good example because they really had trouble taking down those grizzlies until they learned where to shoot.
If you want to keep this discussion in gaming terms, the only reason I can see for nerfing this would be to force people into teams on absolutely every hunt that gives meaningful xp. You already have this situation when hunting sentient beings (the ones with blasters). Now you want to make the player vs. spider battles the same.
In this game, players are already joined at the hip (a good thing), but let's not destroy the few solo play options left.

Well IMO, Knockdown is overpower'd. I have not problems with saying this. BUT only over power'd in the fact that you can SPAM it. If you wanna fix it, make it have higher HAM cost, let it KNOCK a person down longer than 1 attack.
BUT if they are going to mess with our only truly working (IMO) special attack, I do think there are some other things out there that need balance'n.
LIKE the Healthshots
LIKE the Pistol Whip. (Whatever is done to our knockdown should be double or triple to this one, cause we are the master of hand to hand, no the pistoleer)
LIKE BH knockdown (I myself have not more complaints about this one, than our own knockdown... but hey.. you giving the TKS the "love nerf" on our knockdown... might as well share the love!
Peace,

holocromby the reason single people should not be able to solo any mob in the game, is because this eliminates the need for groups. The game might as well be single player.
Very hard mobs should HAVE to be fought in a group. Any time you can solo a high level mob by spamming a single overpowered move (knockdown) and STACKING THE KNOCKDOWN TIME over and over, there is a problem.
Oh and please spare me the real life analogies. This is a game, not real life. It is supposed to encourage grouping, with MORE than a group exp bonus. That is the point of it being Massively Multiplayer.
I'm a TKA, and even I can see a problem with knockdown. It is far too powerful as it is now. They need to implement an immunity timer (like the mezmerise immunity timer in DAoC) so that you cannot be knocked down over and over again. Maybe 30 seconds or so on the timer, that could be tweaked. The same goes for all status effects in my opinion, dizzy blind stun should all have immunity timers.

The game is soo young just enjoy a bit. None of us know where we will be in a few months.
If I may explain.
I am not an advocate of nerfs and dont feel our ranged brothers and sistersneed a nerfing.
Possibly we need some dodging abilities. I'm more for giving then taking away. And I'm certainly not gonna rain on someone elses parade cause I'm unhappy with mine.
We don't know if we are getting personal shields either.
Regarding red con mobs I kinda feel that we should have a slight chance to takem, why cause I like the risk. Should it be easy? certainly not. But risk is fun![]()
Do Melee's have a disadvantage presently, probably.
Will they if we have shields or better defenses?, who knows.
Let's be honest this game is barely what I would call a production release.
All I'm concerned with right now is if I'm enjoying the game, dam straight![]()

I agree...we will have to see what happens with shield generators and such
I'm having fun, but only because I do stuff other than fight
I'm working on some chef skills and medic as well, thats the only reason I'm not going insane from killing baz nitches =)
Jesta, spare me your style of play. MMORPGs should allow for many different styles of play.
Many people, myself included, have a different playing style than yours. We enjoy grouping at times, but we also enjoy doing missions alone, and we want all missions tohave ameaningful payoff. Some people don't enjoy grouping on missions at all. Why would you force them out of the game?
Because it's an MMORPG, no player is an island, so everyone will interract with the whole community in many ways. But people are different, why do you want to force me to play the game the way you do?
well said, holo. i like soloing most of the time. i dont want to be tethered with a group of people. when theres a particularly tough challenge, and i see a group going along, i join them. or when my guild needs me, i join them. but otherwise i like to explore and see what i can kill, or what kills me, on my own. and after spending all this time reaching TK, i should be able to beat the living daylights out of some stupid animal w/o him hitting me once or very often. i've earned it. we all have. its an ELITE profession, for chrissakes. theres nothing elite about having to tag along with a bunch of people every time you wanna hunt something vicious.
having said that, whats a good strategy for a swarming mob? do i just kd them all one at a time and hope they go down?
By the way, player classes (or professions) that are better at solo alway pay a price in other areas for that ability. Strength at on thing is balanced with weakness in another.
I don't know if you ever played EQ, but there are classes in EQ that excel at solo play, but in groups they only addmarginally to the group strength. Many peoplechoose to play those classes, by the way.
I hope SOE doesn'tmarginalize (nerf)people with solo-leaning play styles. We have a ROLE to PLAY in the mmoRPG.
Gilseed, are you talking about the animals that help each other (Pack)?
I took up pistol skills so that I could pull one at a time. It doesn't always work, but it often does, especially if you lie prone. Additionally, I get to do damage to their Health bar before they get near me. And when they do approach, I jump up and switch to a vibro knuckler.
i agree, the term massive multiplayer IMO meant you have the ablilty to enjoy the company of others, plus do what you want.asheron's call,WW2 online just to name a couple i played.the games are more geared to group play but are still enjoyable to "Lone wolf"play.which is my style,i like going out alone because i can go at my own pace.
i think if a game forces you to play in a certain manner, not meaningcode of conduct mind you.if that game forces you to be involved in groups and not let you enjoy the game the way you want to.its not worth playing, ifhave to group up with a bunch of 12yr olds that say nothing but PWNED that **edit**,instead of going on my own.
but its my opinion.
i also agree with one of the other posts about, stop nerfing and start giving.instead of chopping inches on my Johnson because someone is jealous.give them a transplant and bring them up not us down.
