Teras Kasi Archive
Thread: Very radical idea. But just an idea.
I know the devs are just now starting to take a more serious approach to balancing some of the melee classes out there, but I just had to throw this idea out there to see how you guys would react to it before it slipped my mind. It will probably never be done, but I think it would be pretty cool.
One thing that sux about melee classes, or the entire brawler profession for that matter, is the obvious lack of a powerhouse hybrid profession. Almost every class has one, except us, the few, the proud, the melee's. Marksman get their commandos and their bounty hunters, medics get their doctors, what about us brawlers? Are we doomed to be nothing more than a good dabbler profession? Since the developers have stated that they do plan to add more professions along with more content in the future, it is only fair that us melee types be given some sort of a hybrid profession that can be achieved after master brawler. This would give master brawler a purpose besides gaining bonuses to skills we already posess (i.e. warcry2, and lunge2).
Now, before you guys start flaming me, I ask that you read the whole post in its entirety before judging my idea here. If you dont like it, feel free to flame away.
My idea for the ultimate hybrid brawler profession here is the Teras Kasi artist, but not in its current form. In order to do this I would propose that the teras kasi name be removed from the skill tree, and just call all current teras kasi artists martial artists instead. That way the change would not effect anyones skills, it would just change their title. Then create a hybrid profession that requires master brawler to be called the Teras Kasi artist.
The difference would be simple. Since on your way to master brawler you would have to train in polearm, unarmed, 1 handed swords, and 2 handed swords the new teras kasi artist would be a combination of martial arts with weaponry. He would basically be the star wars equivalent of a ninja, just without the fancy getup. Since so many current teras kasi artists would like to see the current implementation of teras kasi become a totally unarmed skill and have vk's removed from it, they could be added to the new teras kasi profession. Along with this they could develop some new weapons that would be at the disposal of the new teras kasi artist. Things like nunchaku, kama, pudao's, shurikens, bows, and double hooks come to mind. These are obviously all very well known martial arts weapons. I would be opposed to exact replicas of these weapons be used in game as this is supposed to be a star wars game. But it would be cool to see a "star wars" version of similar weapons designed for use with this profession.
Also, as to not make the same mistake that was made with bounty hunters, I would propose that swords (both 1 handed and 2 handed) as well as polearm weapons not be certified by this profession. It would not be fair to the pikeman, fencers and swordsman if a member of this profession was better with these weapons than they are. This is the definitive problem with the current implementation of the bounty hunter and should be avoided at all costs. Thus why I think new weapons should be developed with new skills were this profession ever to be added.
As a better example of how this profession would work, it would basically be the ultimate martial artists class since Teras Kasi is supposed to be the premier martial artist in star wars. It would use a combination of weapons and hand to hand combat to annihiliate its opponents and would finally serve to bring the brawler profession a hybrid class that can be on the same level as a commando or a bounty hunter. Special moves for this class would look like combination moves where we hit someone with our nunchaku as well as kick them in the face in 1 move. And you know the animations would be great!
The reason why us brawlers will never be able to be on par with these 2 classes in combat is the lack of development of the system. The system is designed that the classes who spend the most skill points to achieve, will be the most powerful. Its a tradeoff, power for skill points. Its a fair tradeoff and a good system, the only problem is that there arent enough profession options in the game currently to balance us out with the hybrid marksman. We will never do as much damage as them because we are an elite class, we need a hybrid brawler class before the cries of us melee guys will ever truly be heard.
Personally I think that this would make a great class. It would retain all of the characteristics that would make a great melee class, and it would not trample on the unarmed elite class, polearm, 1 handed or 2 handed sword classes. They would remain unique in their own way, and we would finally have a hybrid brawler profession that could do some damage.
What do you guys think?
Teras Kasi means "Iron Fist". The purest definition of Teras Kasi Artist means that there are no weapons involved. Thats why there was a big stink made early on about how TKA shouldn't even have Vibro-Knucklers.
If you want to make a combination class of brawlers, go for it, but it can't be named or be affiliated withTKA if it will have weapons in it. If it does, it will break continuity, which won't happen. Also, as far as brawlers go, TKA is the top of the line (other than Jedi), so your combination class can't be better than a TKM. It kinda sounds pointless, because other brawlers are comparable to TKA now anyways.
Personally, I don't see any reason to go your route. They need to just fix, tweak and add to what they have, rather than throwing more stuff in.
TKs have the bigest and i mean biggest penalty for using those vibro knucklers then any other class with a weapon in the game. The weapons themselfs are crap compared to min and dmg speed of others. We get +dmg to our unarmed as an offset, and anyone wanting to use VKs will notice that chain styling =death, unlike every single other style in any other class in the game.
we are unarmed combatants, and i think the knucklers do not violate that persay, because its like an iron knuckler, or some peice of steel on our fists.
unfortunatly the game mechanics are a little too realistic when it comes to range, 3m might be realistic, but sure isn't on par with even being somthing more then a novis utility aka master tk. if only we had 10m or 8m, we could perform as we should.
onto your idea, i dont like SOEs idea of hybrids atm. Their idea seems to be make masters worthless while making a dabling profession by nature Gods of all. not only better then the master in their respective weapon types, but adding to it it. need proof visit the comando and bounty hunter professions
I'll pass for now with the idea of more hybrids.
I happen to be a commando, and yes, it is very well known that is very little point to achieving master commando. You get 2 new area specials, one for the acid rifle and one for the flamethrower, but other than that, there is very little gain. You dont actually get better at anything. I dont like that either. It kind of irritates me, there should be more reward for achieving master of a hybrid profession, but that doesnt mean we couldn't use more.
Adding a hybrid profession to the brawler tree is just what us melee types need. There are alot of people in this game who want the ability to be powerful like a bh or a commando, but dont want to play with a ranged weapon. They should not be forced to pick up a gun to compete, and we already know that no elite profession is ever going to compete with a hybrid. None of the current melee professions will ever be up to par with these guys, its time they give us something that is.
Out of curiosity, can anyone point me in the direction of some kind of teras kasi information? Ive searched through the database on starwars.com and found nothing on the teras kasi, not even in the EU database.
The reason why I am curious is I am looking for some kind of hard evidence that would support many peoples claims that teras kasi is a completely unarmed profession in the stories. It seems to me that the reason people want teras kasi to be a completely unarmed profession is due to the fact that it in this game it is the elite profession that comes after unarmed mastery. But that does not mean that in the stories they were completely unarmed.
1) TKA's really don't 'exist' in the EU, but there is some short references to them. The concensus seems to be that they were on par with Jedi in strength, but there isn't really anything that puts them into a position where they are unable to use weapons.
2) You are missing the point entirely. We can't hit anything due to poor net coding, no amount of skill points or new skills, will change that short of getting a gun.
I am TK but i love hearing "want to be powerful like a commando" the same month I hear "commando would get beat by a artisian" I guess balance means, and we all know it, make it really sweet so they shut up!
Beaniiman
Bread, I know thats a problem and im not missing that point. My idea here isnt a way to make the teras kasi profession stronger, or even fix it. My idea is to create a hybrid profession for the brawlers because we dont have 1. Because of this, there is very little point to achieving master brawler, it would be nice to have something to strive towards.
It seems, you are the one who missed my point.
