Love TKM, but ranged attacked are my weakness. Currently, I'm considering Pistoleer 0044 and Rifleman 0440 Which will boost my Melee defenses and give me much needed Ranged Defenses. I was considering block tree of Pistoleer when someone told me those bonuses only worked when I was using a pistol. Uh oh. Does anything else work like this? Don't wanna grind Pistoleer and Rifleman to find they're useless when I'm in "Tk-mode" (which is what I'll go back to after I get the defenses). All my defenses should be at or near 100 w/ this template and I'd still have some good SP left over. Am I going to find I've wasted my time if I follow this path...?

TIA

Block, dodge, and counter-attackonly work when the appropriate weapon is equiped for the profession that grants that skill. All the other defenses work all the time hon. However, take pistoleer and fencer for example, both professions use dodge, so *all* the dodge bonuses will work whenever you are weilding a fencer or pistoleer weapon.

Also, Melee defense, ranged defense, and the block/dodge/counterattack skills are capped at +125. All the Defense vs. are not capped.

If you want to pick up a lot of defenses, you might be better with 0440 fencer, tkm, and 0044 pistoleer. Or 4440 fencer, 0040 pistoleer if you plan on using melee almost exclusively. You'll get a lot of defense from either of those options and since both fencer and pistoleer use dodge, that means the times you weild either of those weapons, you'll get all of the dodge bonus too.

why not consider adding smuggler 0030. It'll give you a ranged knockdown for when your being kited, very useful

Kewl. Thanks for the ideas. I was already considering Smuggler for slicing and feign, to low blow sounds like a good extra step.

As for Fencer, I was thinking Rifleman because I'd have tougher ranged defenses and would be able to get a few "free" shots in, but you make a god point about Fencer. Something to consider!

If it is true that block/dodge/counterattack don't work unless you have the coresponding weapon equiped, why do we have a skill that increases our chance to block/dodge/counterattack?

Did I read that skill wrong? Is the only way to get a benefit from that skill to take the TKA skill tree but use other professions while fighting? That seems odd. As is stands a master pistoleer will get more benefit from a TKA skill than a TKM.

BTW, I'm sorry if this has been addressed already, I don't usually come to the TKA boards because I have so few problems as a TKM.
