Both of these are considered excellent PVE professions. Which one does better overall? Is the AP1 and only kinetic damage a huge handicap at the high end of PVE? Is the Blast damage and AP2 too good to pass up? I really enjoy TKA a bunch and like the moves, but I worry about being limited by the light AP and kinetic damage

Cheers!

I am both a tkm and master swordsman and I would say it depends on the situation. If there are 2 or more creatures that i am attacking then i take out my hammer and kill them all at once. But if I am one on one i usually use tka.

I am not a Heavy Swordsman but I am TK Master and i would probly say that seeing as how they are both very good at PvP and u dont want to do bot. Choose the one u think u will have more fun playing. I used to think that games were for fun then I played starwars galaxies.

That might be true but is it what they find more fun to play.

You can make a good showing as a TKM without gear. You can, thanks to meditation, buff yourself a bit, especially your mind, stand upfrom incaps 1/hour, and heal all wounds, even mind wounds, anywhere, anytime outside combat. Same for diseases and poisons and bleeds. That alone makes for a very fun profession when you deal with diseasing critters on a regular base. TKM also have higher unarmed toughness than swordsmen have 2h toughness, so you can take more damage. They deal less damage, but as far as I know, they have better state attacks, can target any pool (which means they work well with others), and are very, very fast. They only deal kinetic damge, and are stuck at AP1, which may be a deciding drawback for hunters of the bigger mobs.

Here's the skinny...... In PVE it's all situational. Really depends on what your role in group is and what you are fighting.

TKM is all round better, they reach the spd cap easier, can damage any pool, can heal any wounds, stop poison/disease/bleeds. Has a full range of debuffs and better toughness than any other melee class. The problems come when your target is heavy armored by either kenetic resist or just plain armor. That's when your dps will slowly fade.

Swordsman on the other hand has kenetic and the less resisted blast damage. At one point they had fantastic bleeds, but all bleeds were nerfed hurting this class alot. The plain and simple fact bout this class is high end, mind pool, less resisted damage. That's really it. Don't get me wrong it's a very strong point in and of itself since ap/ar works in PVE.

In PVP it's another matter. All things equal, with no stacking defenses.. tkm 80% of the time wins. Sorry to say but it's hands down a melee killer. I've seen it time and time again, sure HS can win, but all things equal there's no real contest.

PVE damage wise, as i've said, is situational. I remember seeing a post back when the sycthe was coming out that reported the dps of both tkm, and heavy swordsman against ap0/ap1/ap2/ap3. The tests showed that tkm will have a higher dps against ap0 and ap1 targets, but start to lose that edge against the latter ap2/ap3 targets. I wish i had a link, but i remember reading it in the swordsman forums near the time of the new weapon release.

Personally if you ask me... try both. I personally found that anytime i was hunting higher ap targets i was in a group, and my role changed from damage dealer to damage sponge. Using taunt i can keep plenty of agroed targets on me and take the damage as a tkm for the group. This is my opinion. And yes, i've mastered both myself. Still like tka better. After fencer though but that's another matter.

All right, but apart from the sanitation droids, bionic limbs, hyper-drive, moisture vaporators, galactic order, abolisment of slavery, star charts, the compact and efficient central government and interplanetary free trade, what has the Empire ever done?"

I am going both TKM and Swords with some Pistoleer. I like to PVP and PVE, In PVE I know i will rock with either of the two classes, In PVP I guess I will more than likely get owned, but I can hold my own with this template.

My suggestion is just do what you like, I like swords and TKA, so I did both and just switch when i need to.

I am both TKM and MHS. Also have Medic 0-0-4-0 thrown in so that I can use stim-E's, and some fencer for defences.

When I need to kill fast, I fight as a MHS. When I need to tank, I fight as TKM. Overall, MHS do more damage, and CoB helps a lot especially in a multi-mob situation. However, in a group, a TKM's worth is being able to hold mobs, and in state-change attacks i.e. intimidate, blind, stun and the occassional KD.

Being able to use stim-E's is very beneficial to my template. 1400+ heals every now and then, when stuffed with canapes and brandy (and secondary mind buffs if there is opportunity) means that I can tank almost indefinitely...that is...until my armour wears down...
