I had wanted to change my profession so after talking to some people I decided on TKA. First thing I did was check the FAQ. I strongly recommend this for anyone. All profession boards should have a FAQ stickied on their boards. Read them.

I already have Unarmed IV form doing Smuggler. So I only had to get to Novice TKA and go from there.

As many others have said. Get some Vibro Knucklers and use them. Even without the certification you will attack much faster with them than without. So your sustained damage will be higher even with the damage reduction.

First thing I did was create a Spin macro (you get UnarmedSpinAttack1 at Unarmed IV). I used the one listed in the FAQ with some modifications. Here is the one I used. Naturally remove the /center command in the macro until you hit Novice TKA. Then add it in.

/center; /unarmedspintattack1; /unarmedspinattack1; /unarmedspinattack1; /unarmedspin attack1; /unarmedspinattack1; /pause 5; /macro Spin

This kept me using CoB for the most part. Timing wasn't perfect but it was close enough to work. The pause helps if you need to take some food / drink / whatever. Without the break you don't get to use them until there is a break in your attack in the combat que.

This macro worked great when there were groups of MOBs defending the lair. Badly injured ones would walk off. My tactic was to finish the lair first. Then go after an straglers. Sometimes they injured ones would walk back and get dropped prior to the lair being destroyed.

I created one other macro for destroying lairs. As often the lair would be healed by the MOBs before they all died. Once I had killed all the MOBs I used the /dump command to get rid of it. Then I used my UH macro. Here it is.

/unarmedhit2 ; /macro UH

This does more damage than the spinattack so is better for killing the lair itself when the defenders are gone. Don't forget to /dump when the lair is gone. Otherwise you will get some lag.

I then headed to Dantooine to grind XP. Another trick. Get a droid and group with it. Then leave it somewhere safe. Being grouped gives you an XP bonus of 15-20%. It makes it much faster to level.

I took Quenker missions at first. Took a Savage Quenker mission but those have been changed so they now have a ranged attack.

After that I stuck to non-ranged attack MOBs. I concentrated on the Huurtons. Took mostly Howler missions until I got UnarmedSpinAttack2 (earned at Power III). At that point I changed the Spin macro to use this new attack. Then took Huntress missions. A Huntress is worth about 4600 XP if grouped. About 3500 if solo. They spawn in groups of two. So six per mission plus the lair gives about 30k XP.

I went up the Power branch first. As I got the combat XP I used it on the Precission branch. I then went up to Balance II and Meditation II. I did this because of a lack of Skill Points at the time. Once I freed some up I finished off Balance then Meditation.

Once I got Powerboost I used it prior to attack the first lair. It would generally last until after I'd destroyed the second one. So it was rather convenient.

You will want to find MOB's that are melee only. I'm most familiar with Dant so I did my hunting there. Go where you feel comfortable and take on MOBs you know.

Huurton Howlers will caus Dizzy and the Huntresses will do Stun attacks. At the lower levels of TKA I had to use armor. Later I was able to do the missions without any armor. Just a good set of buffs, food, and powerboost was adequate for the most part. There were a couple occassions that I had to put on armor when other MOB's got involved. So keep armor handy.

So that is how I made Master in about a week of casual play. I've since tried it out some more. Went to the Geo caves and found them mostly empty of players so I had some good tests. So far I like what I see. I didn't go to far in. Didn't have to many problems. Mostly just wanted to test TKA out at Master.

But it's looking like a good profession. It appears the specials work like the description states. Kind of hard to tell about some of the passive abilities though. I'm still trying to figure out Defense Acuity. But so far so good.
