Thread: Having lots of fun with the 'bugged' and 'nerfed' profession?

Kinda thought we could use some positive stuff

All over the blinkin' place, different forums--core systems, swordsman, others--I hear about how useless TK is now. There's a post I read in one forum that specifically told another poster to drop TK, respec to something else, it wasn't any good anymore (not gonna give details, why cause trouble, everyone's entitled to their totally moronic opinion). I've been told in game that the 'golden days of TK are over'. Heck, somebody I know laughed at me for going TKM/Master Swords from TKM/Master Commando in respec ('You should go Master Carbineer/Master Commando, or go Swords/Fencer if you gotta stay melee, but ditch that TK already, it's worthless!')...until he got incapacitated by critters that I peeled off of him before he could get killed, at least (still learning to tank in the CU world, I do screw up at times). We're bugged, we've been nerfed, we're gimped, it's impossible to do anything with TK anymore, all melee got shafted and TK worst of all, TK's are the redheaded stepchildren of the CU, going TK causes plaque and gingivitis...okay, maybe I didn't hear that last one. My obvious question, with all this hearsay, if TK is so bloody useless...

...why am I having the time of my life nowadays?

Yeah, I've got no spin attacks, who needs 'em? Endless spin attacks on lairs to take out the lair and the Janta surrounding you is BORING. Yeah, I can't wear armor and get the innate armor, but the above example I was in regular clothing (not even BE'd which seems to be broke right now anyway), he was in comp. Yes, some people do still use comp, and I laughed at him for that (well, not nastily, he's still Commando like I was, he's entitled to the 'Commando Armor' ). I'm no longer spam-in-a-can, I can look GOOD with my good-looking toon and still do great in combat. Swing a mean hammer, and look sexy in hotpants and matching sports wrap. Heck, do very well without the hammer, a mix of swords and TK specials barehanded works wonderfully.

Admittedly I'm not a big fan of PVP and haven't done any, so that alters the possibilities for death greatly, but now that I've learned how to survive in the new world--wanna know the only time I've died in the last couple weeks, every minute unarmored? Once, and that was when I was bugged thanks to Sunrunner dying in the middle of trying to go on leave--I was stuck unable to either go combatant OR on leave, effectively combatant but unable to get a promotion I wanted since my 'paperwork was in process' and had been for days--when I went out and specifically TRIED to get killed. Which turned out to be hard work! I could've gone out and found a level 85 swarm I'm sure, instead of a bunch of 78's (yes I'm level 80), but I wanted it to at least be some challenge CoB plus my auto-melee hit and a few taps with legsweep, bleed, and so forth to keep things interesting...and they had a heckuva time whittling me down to nothing, and when I wasn't really trying to survive.

So what fun are y'all having with our so-very-bugged and unplayable profession, eh? How're other 'useless' TKA's having so much fun it oughtta be illegal? Share, I for one want to hear!

i have yet to lose a duel in the CU as a TKM/fencer/swordsman (and also a brief respec with TKM/Swordsman/pike/mBrawler). and that's 20+ duels against a variety of non-jedi.


no one profession is perfect on it's own. some TKM's complain that they suck. a LOT of fencers complain that they suck. and swordsman are kind of on the ropes about whether or not they suck, along with pikeman.


but you stack TKM with any of these professions and LEARN HOW TO USE IT, and you have yourself an ass-kicking toon.


my only real annoyance is CoB becoming bugged (not starting) sometimes. but i'm sure that'll be worked out.

/agree I love using 2 of the most gimped (by popular opinion) profs and handing everyones ass to them. Its so much fun. Hell most people ask me how do i get such good defenses after the raping, i just laugh. I swear most the people i fight think im modded out the ass, but its really just me and my hammer

Aye, TKM is trully so nerfed and bugged........lol, give me a break , with innate armor coupled to def bonuses and center of being ( improved in tka) you can stand playing punching ballfor 3 or 4 even con mobs with a big smile on your face, they just barely scratch you....

if you use stimps once in a(long) while you can even take beating indefinatly.


Add sword or pikeman , or even dabble in both to boost tkm and you become a juggernaut with the tons of def bonus and hinderance attacks you can grab.



Edit: frankly, the only people complaining tkm is useless are the l33t freaks not being able to spam spin attack in godmode buffs anymore....

With my build id say 6 out of 10 people ive fought could just sit there and beat on me forever, theres no way they could ever kill me. I especially love the ranged peeps, the good ones will kite me for damn 30 minutes just shooting/snaring/rooting and never even come close to killing me, i get in range one time and its over. God it must be so frustrating fighting me

People still want the old TK back. He is gone forever. Learn your new role and you will be sought after for groups. There are still some bugs to be worked out but all in all we came out OK.



Jedi will be rare and difficult - No
Increased Dev communication - No
CU will balance combat - No
Most of the bugs from launch fixed - No
saintchuck will continue to pay - No

- I supported the CURB, the Devs and the attempt to make SWG a better game and have realized it didn't work so I'm quitting in less than 2 days and won't be tricked into coming back again. Trick me once, shame on you...

QFE. Heck, I think we're better than we were. Different, the part that I feel scares folks the most, but still better.

Just look at me, MTK 'gimped' and and here it comes......MRanger 'gimped since launch'. I can tell you TKM is still a good profession, even without mastering swords or pikes. Ranger does give me combat lvl, but no specials or weapon's. It give me battle armor midagatshion (ms) which I don't use because of TKM. I do get my traps and camo, which I do use.


I havn't figured out why they are crying. I am having a blast my self, I have figured out how to use both professions in concert and have no problems taking out lvl 83-84 missions on Dath. It does keep one on their toes, and the old heart gets pumped up sometimes, but hey thats the fun.

The threat of death (even though it means nothing other than a trip to the clone center and some damage to equipment) is one of the big things that was missing for a very long time. Yes the game is completely different but I think it's better.

While the combat system is buggy and flawed, I do have fun on occassion. I have TK on two charactors. The main combat chactor is a TKM/Master Carb/Pistols. I like the range support capability with carbineer/pistols and I can go unarmed at close range. Of course this is spoiled somewhat by:


1) beasties that look like they are 30 meters away are really only 1 meter away and clawing at my flesh while i have the carbine in hand,


2) my other charactor who has no range weapon ability can use a nym carbine and do more damage with that than with unarmed attacks.


3) the 1970's era D&D ripped off level system


4) the knowledge that I can solo a krayt but can get incapped by a huurton pup



I really feel for the folks that have to grind up to a master level with an elite combat class. Gah!




Only time will tell, no one else really knows...

3-4 even cons...bah! I'm TK/CM and I can tank 7-8 level 82's (4 ways to heal...hehe). And groups love me as I keep them safe and healed.

How I feel I know I don't have the best hammer on Sunrunner--and don't much care. I certainly don't have the best armor Well...in a way, maybe I do. I'm not defined by my weapons, though, the way I was as a Commando.

That kinda goes back to what some have said in a few posts...I've said it in a bunch. Learn your skills! I died a buncha times when first learning TKM/MSwords, but I kept at it, found what worked, what didn't, learned how to heal myself in combat (why I'm not dropping that Medic for anything) with stims and bacta both, learned to use maskscent effectively to make sure I fight the number of critters I want to fight (usually ) when I go hunting...control the battle, in other words. Sometimes I feel like a juggernaut, honestly. Even without pikes. I will admit I sometimes miss not being able to change from melee to ranged like I could (not that Commando has MUCH range effectiveness), but hey, them's the breaks. We're so nerfed I honestly think we're one of the best prof's, particularly when combined with something else that stacks well.
