As a relative new commer to this proffesion, there is something i have been wondering, what armour do TKM's were? I have seen a majority of them in nothing but a hooded cape, I understand about buffing but how does this protect compared to ubese or comp armour? Please enlighten one who seeks knowladge.

To wear armour is less important to a TKM than any other class due to its high Unarmed Toughness. However this does stack with armour, so a TKM would receive significantly less damage than another armoured profession.
I'd advise you wear armour for everything except anything below white con, and Jedi.

With the right buffs and food, I never wear armor while doing missions on Dant. Any place else, I adjust as needed.

Above posters have the right idea. With your unarmed toughness, (I'm assuming you're already a Teras Kasi Master), you will take less damage then other professions. With buffs the way they are these days, depending on what you are fighting, you may not need any.
Generally, the only types of armor that you will see is Ubese, and Composite. Composite being the more popular of the two, and for good reason. For anywhere between 250k-350k credits, you can find a good set of armor with up to 80% resists to everything. Much less expensive, (Maybe 125k credits, I'm not sure), Ubese armor can provide somewhere up to 70% resists. It mainly equates to what you are fighting, if you have the credits to buy it or not.
Basically, it comes down to this. You should be okay with buffs, and powerboost in most cases. If you have the credits to spare, or are still grinding up Teras Kasi, buy yourself some armor, for some added protection.

well the wearing of armor is like the others have said a question of how much the mob can hurt you and how many they are.
doing everything on dant for instance requires no armor for me. I usually have hunting leggings on cause they look good with my wookie shirt to it. but other than that nothing. If you dont meet a dark jedi wich you just want to run away from. same on dathomir rancors requires no armor to speak of. Nightsister up to protectors can be done without much armor aswell if they dont pull out a stun batoon.
Armor is mostly for high end mobs as a precaution, one badass mob could be made without armor aslong as you intim them and keep cob running, but usually put on armor for that just to be sure.
Just try different mobs without armor if they dont hurt yay for you less money you need to spend on good armor for grinding and money making.

personally, i never wear armor, but that decision was mostly a character personality decision. Also, all my clothing is bio-enhanced...+15 defense v stun & +4 melee defense for three of the items, intimidation/warcry +14 med +16 for my pants...

Hi,
Providing you get a good set of buffs then you should not really need any armour for anything upto the level of an Enraged Rancor. I held my own (just about) with 5 Enranged Rancors the other night .... i have to say it surprised the hell out of me and would have never given any thought to doing so, but my Chest armour gave out just as i laid my first hit on the lair. I had some 2500 buffs along with some decent mind buffs and of course the powerboost. I ama TKM and Master Ranger, so im sure that gave me a little edge.

and one more thing ...... i can not emphasize highly enough the importance of using COB (Centre of Balance). This is vitaly important as even Enraged Rancors seem to only lay a 1:3 or a 2:4 hit ratio on you. Fight without it and no armour and no amount of Buffs is gonna help ya if you are fighting high level critt's. You should use a COB macro to ensure that it is always up during fights, but remember you can not COB whilst meditating, so this can and usualy will through out your COB macro timing, leaving you open to some blows that you would normaly have avoided.

as every1 else has posted you dont need armor most of the time..just for that added safety net...and aside from krayt/Kimo's the only other times i wear full armor is for npcs (NS/SMC/Sith shadow/geos/DWB) just cause they like to get in that final overcharge2 hit to the unprotected spots lol
i wear a comp chestplate...but its more for looks than anythingelse. CoB is way more effective than any armor you can buy for the amount of damage you avoid.
and besides you can always warcry and heal up lol
