is innate tk armor at master level better than full katarn armor? approx what stats does battle armor need to be to equal innate tk armor?

afaik innate armor is equal to an armor with 6000 protection, therefore no better armor can be made than innate armor. The only thing that is still better than TKA innate is jedi's master defender innate. But this is only the way I know, I'm not totally sure.

My battle armor is 6.9k energy and 5k Kinetic
My recon armor is 8k Energy and 4k kinetic
So Tk innate is not bad, but better armor can be crafted

But your Recon Armour is at least triple layered, if not quad layered to get those stats. And I bet you that cost a pretty credit to boot. And, unless you have 5 ADK's (assuming that armour is Ubese, more is not) it WILL eventually break.
TK's Inate armour is free and indestructable.

So should I even worry about buying Ubese armor for my Smuggler TKM? How much did you pay for your 8k E / 4k K recon armor?

im new to tkm and would like to know how innate armor works?
do i have to be unarmed or use an unarmed weapon for the innate armor to work?
any special clothes required or any clothes/none?
i was out hunting with a guildie who was wearing katarn armor and i was wearing clothes but using the xris acid sword (im master fencer also)and i was taking mor damage than he was for sure. (330 compared to about 210)
any help is appreciated

innate armour is only negated when u wear any part of crafted armour (beside a PSG) - and this is also true for tusken or pilot helmets atm.
if u dont have any crafted armour part your innate armour is always on - it doesnt matter what weapon (ranged or melee) u use. only your TK defensive mods drop when u equip a weapon.
there are some nice crafted armour available - i saw a full set of padded battle armour (6.1 kinetic 5.9 energy - went for 470K on chimaera). when i look at my pistoleer/doc - which i dont play as tanker - i waste my battle armour real fast - and this would be even faster for a tank. so i learned to appreciate my tk innate armour. i just look cooler and can wear be clothing to add healing or damage mods (if that will work some day).
PS: take a search in this forum - there is a prob with fencer/TKA stated in thread - when equipping a fencer weapon it seem to drop your defenses (perhaps even the innate armour if i remember well)

Please excuse if this is a stupid question, but what armor is better than innate TKM (outside of Jedi)?

Well, top end battle armor generally hits 5600/5600 so it is slightly less effective than innate TKA armor.
Top end Recon and Assault armor are generally 4600/6600 and 6600/4600 respectively, so they will be slightly better against either energy or kinetic.
In most cases though, innate TKA armor is better on account of the fact that it is always on and never needs to be insured.
