Thread: Devs Take a Look : TKA Content Ideas

Forgive me if this idea's been tossed out before, but I dont have time to read every single thread that hits this board.

I was thinking along the lines of some way to add content and ways to make earning XP as a TKA more interesting. For someone like myself, being involved in martial arts for over six years, it is clear to me that the way to better yourself in the art isnt by running out into some cow pasteurs and knocking out a bull or stomping a mud-hole into an alligator (although doing so would provide some serious bragging rights, ifyou survived). You learn from your teachers and from your fellow practitioners. My idea would be to create NPC Teras Kasi"dojos" scattered throughout the remote country sides of the starting planets. Once a player reaches the level of TK novice they would be allowed to join, if able to pass a series of tests.

Perhaps the local Master could send you on a series of quests the same way in which regular quest giving NPC's do. Only with thesequests you gain access to the "dojo" and are not given a dud firework and 259 credits. Or maybe he would have you fight another student and if you prevail he will teach you.

Once admitted into the dojo this is where the real fun would begin. The main benefit to joining a dojo would allow PC's to gain XP by fighting one another inside the dojo. They would of course have to bothbe members and XP gained would have to be reduced to keep things interesting.

A rank system could be established for more advanced TKA's. And as you advance through your skill tree, you would be given a series of tests corresponding to each skill you are qualified to learn. Passing these tests would allow free training by the "dojo" Master or another PC member (to keep the AP going to actual people) and a rank much like the faction ranks, to be displayed on your profile or character sheet. I have some ideas for these tests as well. Perhaps a rival dojo challenges your dojo to a fight to see who is best? The "dojo" Master chooses you to travel to the other dojo and represent...Now if you're like me you are already seeing the possibilities that could arise from Player Owned Dojos, but back tothe "tests".

Say you just qualified for Intermediate Balance Conditioning.Thetest would be to defeat an opponent while dizzy at the start of the fight...do this and you pass and earn a rank. Once you qualify for Advanced Balance Conditioning you have to defeat two opponents while dizzy . For Advanced you are dizzy the entire duration of the fight and fight one harder opponent. And for Master you are dizzy the entire time and must face two difficult opponents.

For Power Techniques, how about cutting your over all damage by 1/4 first and fighting a single opponent. For Advanced PT your dmg is at 1/4 with two opponents. Expert could be 1/2 dmg and one harder opponent and Master would be 1/2 with two opponents.

I'm looking at the Precision Striking part of the tree now. I think the "rival dojo" challenges would be great for that one since it takes combat XP. In a dojo environment the fights are controlled and give you a false sense of security. In the real world things are different. Only by getting "real world" combat XP in the SWG universe would you qualify for these tests.

As for Meditative I'm kinda stuck on that one...Perhaps there wouldnt be any tests for that. Your abilities to meditate grow naturally with your skills as a TKA. No testing needed.

Now then, If a player were to pass all tests and rise to the glorious rank of Teras Kasi Master they would gain the ability to start a dojo of their own. This is where the true fun begins. With that said, the dojos would not interfere in anyway with guilds nor would they compete in anyway with guilds. Dojo affiliations would not be displayed openly like guilds. Perhaps on the examine screen it could list that info, but only if you belong to a dojo yourself. This would also give those Architects something else to build and sell.

After writing this I'm seeing the possibilities for such schools for all aspects of melee combat...from fencers to pikemen...and we all know those pikemen need some love.

Read and respond people and please, keep it constructive.

I like this idea, ive been in the martial arts as well for just about that time as well, and that would be a great idea. Though maybe that could be an option for a PA hall instead of a new structure, and at the roof there would be some extra things like a large mat in the middle of the roof. With the option added to a pa hall, you cant do both, Either its a dojo or a player association, but you can join one of each, the dojo title not being displayed to those not associated with a dojo.

Also, while training, you dont wear Vibro Knucklers since you are training, not killing.

the RP possibilities are good too, you could have your students Bow before entering the dojo, have a few students meditate while the master stands up front speaking have a few torches for ambience.

ShortFuseBurning, i like this idea alot, that would be something veryunique to keep players, like myself, interested in the game because as of now, it is very dull.

I think Teras Kasi should be able to twirl pistols into their holsters. Also, we should be able to do some sort of elaborate victory dance on the body, (please note the SINGULAR expression here, NOT multiple),of the hapless retard that we managed to catch AFK. What's that you say? Why do I believe in the victory dance?

Because unless our class gets fixed, we won't be doing much killing. Therefore, we should celebrate as long and hard as we can, any time we get the chance.

What's that you say? Do I have a solution?

Why sure. You just read it. The pistol twirling and the victory dance.

If you want a REAL solution, read this thread...

Sounds like a great idea, would be alot of fun i think, as long as your wounds didnt accumulate, and no db's were allowed, unless there was a cloneing center at the dojo I would finish off TKA if this became a reality!

actually i enjoy listening to a shakuhachi. I thought about buying one and giving it a shot, but heard it was terribly hard to do...plus i just dont have the freetime to practice..too much SWG.

*note*technically it wouldnt be called a "dojo" since that is a japanese word from a place that does not exist a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.
