Thread: Insightful Advice Please
First let me take the time to thank those in advance who reply to this message with useful information to shape the next few months of swg for myself.
The dilemma I currently have is where to go from Master Ranger. The ranger profession has worn its welcome with me and I have several paths to travel. One of them being TKA which also seems to be the most terrifying choice to make. I've began to dabble with brawler, slowly working my way up the unarmed tree which has brought to life several concerns. First I notice that my battle fatigue accumulates exponentially. Does this slow down as you progress up TKA? Compared to ranged weapons for PvE (I'm not really into PvP) how do you feel you fair against mobs when compared to say a rifleman or pistoleer? I notice that even with a pet out, that the mobs often turn on me, does this change when you become a novice TKA or do I need to change my approach?
Again, thank you for any insightful input.

It is not uncommon for me to walk around with 100 to 200 BF before I decide to get it taken care of. If it affects me in any way, I don't really notice it. I do have a feeling that BF will become more of an issue as the Devs delve further into melee game mechanics. Anyhow, the viability of a TKA is very situational. Answer some of these questions so that others might be able to give you useful advice:
1. What kind of equipment can you currently afford?
2. Do you intend to group or solo as you level?
3. Are you going to persue medical training in conjunction with TKA
As to what mobs we can handle better than class X, again very situational and largely dependant on the tactics you use. I would venture to say the the TKA Master is THE toughest character in the game. I'll also tell you that you suffer alot more incaps/cloning/wounds/BF/money loss due to replacement gear(should you choose to use it)than any other combat class I know of. As for mobs turning on you when using a pet... always ensure that your pet is closer to the mob than you are (due to server-client synch this is tough unless you WALK up to the mob after you sick the pet on it).
Hope you end up with what's right for you!
Few things to consider first
do you like fighting unarmed, trying to keep your target within 5m of you ?
Can you put up with having to chase targets all over the place so you can just hit them ?
As training in TKA you will also take a lot of damage and battle fatigue. It does get less as you progress but that is due to the increased defense stats and unarmed toughness.
TKA is one skill tree that to gain the benifits you really need to complete all of it not just a few boxes here and there.
I personally like TKA the best, have tried a few (BH, commando, CH). I never used a pet or armour through all of TKA. In TKA and probably other melee classes you need to know your limitations and your weaknesses.
You can take on virtually any creature, if you get incapped and not deathblowed, you just get up heal up and go finish it off. Armoured targets and high kinetic resist targets are harder but not impossible.
Best course of action is to grab novice medic as well so you can heal your damage during combat, maybe take muon gold to boost mind (when not bugged). It all can help but is not always needed.
But most important you must want to do TKA because you like it and want to master it, not because you think some of the skills will be usefull.
Battle fatigue is always a problem for the brawler classes in particular....facing opponents at point blank range will lead to far more BF than engaging at ranged, its a simple fact. However, as you progress up the TK tree, battlefatigue is really not an issue. Particularly once your melee defense and unarmed toughness are raised, you suffer far fewer hits and those that do, incur far fewer wounds...accordingly, the BF is less an issue. As an example, I'm currently one box away from TK master, I run primarily destroy missions on dathomire, and need to visit a cantina maybe once/twice a day at most.
In terms of PVE, I've found TK to be far more powerful than any of the ranged professions. For example, as a BH, i cannot tackle the Kamurith lairs without a strong pet, as a TK, i can solo 2 at once with ease. The only problem in pve for tk is when you engage ranged enemies (ie. tuskens, etc.), they can quickly cause significant damage, however, its easy to get around: charge to melee range, become master brawler for lunge 2, and avoid large mobs of ranged opponents.
As far as mobs turning on you, it depends on whether you or your pet is closer to the enemy and which of you is doing more damage. However, I can assure you that as you become a high level TK, you can stand toe to toe with most npc's in the game, and the fact that an enemy is targeting you in melee will NOT be a concern.
I can pretty much afford what I need and being a rich player isn't a necessity for me during the game. I also do tend to go solo alot but can always change that as needed. I am also already a novice medic, I don't know how people live without it.
Ah, one more question.
What are your recommendations for HAM alignments?
Thanks,

Try not to think about how uber your character be. Im almost a master ranger and i am a master TK. To tell you the truth no matter how much other professions kick my butt and TK gets nerfed, im stickin to TK cause it is fun and i enjoy it. Pick a profession you enjoy and stick with it. Dont worry about battle fatigue (once you hit master healing battle fatigue will beless importantsince you can heal your own wounds). Just have fun. I know i am! (now if they could only make the ranger profession more fun
