Once I tried to solo a dune kimogilla but as soon asI hit the attack button and started attacking the kimo would just back up out of my range meanwhile hitting me with disease and poison and all kinds of crap. Every time I moved foreward to get in range it would move out of range, but I was standing close to it. Why does it do this? I noticed other creatures do this as well. Is it because the range on my VK is low? Thanks.

its because. thats all they just do it u hit them they run away u gotta just try and keep up with them. vk's dont have a range they have a range mod wich increases or decreases dmg u do at various ranges.

One animal I fought on corellia was naturally out of my attack range. It needed 5 meter distance to attack me, and I needed a 3 meter distance to attack it. Computers never get tired of moving their toons, you do!

For awhile it was actually kinda broke on the pve end.. Creatures with ranged attack would stand still and not attack until you we went melee on them.. (Savage Quenkers). That didn't really make sense that a ranged attacker would just stand there and take it or wait til you were within melee range to attack and even then not use their full attacks.

In previous notes the devs stated that they would change it so that the mobs would use the ranged attacks and actually try to preserve themselves and run away. But they also said that they wouldn't kite us forever.. I have been kited but it only irritates me when I have multiple targets.

For the most part stay within range by running with the mob; you can still hit while moving. If they don't stop then do lunge1 and try a posture change and then go for a knock down. If they run faster than you then you may have to burst run. If they will not stop kiting you may have to resort to another profession or let it go.

I killed one last week. The blasted critter dragged me all over the desert. I just kept on him and finally he died. It was frustrating while I was doing it, but oh so very satisfying whenI was done.

I want to ask if taunt would have helped. I never even realized this was an actual skill until recently. Does it only work to take the aggro off someone else or would it also work tokeep a kiting critternear me. I need to go try this skill out.

Thanks,

Mirii

Hmm... I only get this with autoattacks these days, not when using specials - which I uaually do - since all specials, VK or not, have a range of 10 meters, lunge 20 meters, and autoattack 5 meters (unarmed) and I think 3 meters (VK).

Ah, back when we had 5 meters range for specials, not 10 meter, those were "out of range spam" days.

I agree that the problem is that the whole skeleton of a target isn't attackable, only the torso. I've run into this with enraged and bull rancors, as well as tortons. Strangely enough, I also run into it any time both I as a TKM and a swordsman or CH large critter (rancor, graul, etc) are attacking the same target. If i'm on them solo, i'm in range with my vk, but as soon as two of us are there, the computer autoadjusts to a new distance away from both of its attackers, and my vk are suddenly out of range for autoattack.

i think its partly because they put the 'to-hit' box in the center of the creature, and with large creatures their heads stick out far from this box, making it easy for them to hit you, but hard for you to hit their torso / hit-box. of course any expert in martial arts could hit the giant creature in the head, but not a TK artist i suppose - gotta be the body.

one way i've found of countering this (although at an accuracy penalty because you're moving a lot) is to Auto-Follow the creature while you're fighting. this works well for creatures you know are going to run away near death too.

Good answer, this can be very annoying. What i tend to do is run infront of the critter of the direction it is going and it stopped this problem from happening.

Also ie huntingmobs and they so low on health they run off hit a few /taunt s this will send them back to you (more angry than ever)

It's been my experience that when fighting a Kimogila (if I'm solo) I stay in one place and continue spamming uh3. I have found that unless I'm on a hill or incline, the Kimo comes in and out of my range approx every 3 seconds. Unfortunately the combat que clears itself during that 3 second interval that they are out of range so you have to continue filling it. I have found that when my distance to target reads 17m, I can continue to hit the targetand they don't back up onyou.Taunt works wonders when they get low hamenough to run.
