Thread: Doc4000 Required now to tank well?

I keep seeing everyone adding Doc4000 to their templates, melee and ranged alike. I am about to respec into melee from ranged and am curious what you all think. Is the template I am thinking about viable now? TKM/MSwords/MBrawl/Fencing0400/Pike0040 . I have spent 6 FS points also (even though I have 3 branches open and banked FS exp to fill them).

My plan is to unlock my last 3 FS branches while grinding the last of the fs exp needed to fill them then drop fencing or pike skills to do the Paddy trials. So can a MTK/Swords/MBrawl/Pike0040/CP4044/ER0444 get by and start the jedi grind without healing? I want to maintain CL80, be able to tank some Bols and fend off BH's? Or am I going to wish I took Dr4000?

thanks a lot for your input

Yes, Doc4xxx is a requirement now sadly. Even with our high defenses and ability to take punishment, at the highest levels of the game stimDs will not heal you fast enough, even with Ruby Bliel. Access to Bacta Jab and Bacta Shot will make you able to stand up to any foe.

With the template you have in your sig the most you can put into FS skills and maintain CL80 is 7 points. So if I wanted to use your template (which looks great if you never want to go Jedi or deep into FS) you would have to drop to CL 74 or so (dropping xxx4 doc and 2 from swords (going something like 0424) just to get to the Paddy trials. So now grinding as a jedi you would be doing so at a low CL 74? That wont work very well at all imo. Bols and other mobs in pve will kick your butt all over.

So how can I grind Jedi with a TKM template that has Dr4000 and maintain CL80? Can it be done really?

Actually 4000 doc is NOT required to tank efficiently. The whole purpose of a "Tank" is just to keep agro on them while the rest of the group kills them. It is NOT the tanks job to kill them only to hold the AGRO. And if your in a group then you will probably have a main healer who will heal you and keep you alive while all the mobs are beating on you.

But, if your talking about going out and soloing without a group then yes, 4000 doc i would say is recommended so you can solo efficiently. I think alot of people throw around the word "Tank" for meelee.

If you want to be a superb GROUP tank then i would recommend Master TKM / Master Swordsman / Master Fencer so you have heavy ranged and meelee defences, But this is only for a "TANK."

If you want to be a profficient SOLO killer that is good at mitigating some damage and does good damage and also can keep him/herself alive then i Suggest maybe Master TKM / Master Swordsman / Doctor 4000.

You're grinding to padawan and buying the boxes? You're much better off banking the fs xp and then training once you have enough for your 6 trees, which is what I'm doing.

As for the healing, I submit this...you know of anything that pisses off a mob better than strong heals? If the tank can heal himself and keep the aggro off the main healer (who is watching the squishy riflemen), then you have a happy healer.

Well as I stated I have only used 7 Fs boxes but have unlocked 3 whole branches. I am saving the FS exp to put in all at once. That is my point actually. Once you need to invest the remained 14 boxes of FS skill points templates that are TKM/Mswords/Doc4000 or TKM/Swords0444/Dr4004,etc, will drop way below CL80to seem viable as a tank until a decent amount of Jedi boxes can be purchased.

So can a melee template with Dr4000 remain CL80 once you need to spend your 21 FS points? If so, what is the template? See my question/problem now?

I don't think it's possible to spend 21 FS points, keep 4xxx Doc and be CL80. But with group visability now a thing of the past, I don't see any reason why a jedi padawan should not be out group grinding. At that point, your personal CL doesn't matter since you're bound to have a CL80 in there.

I was a MTKA / Master Pike 4-0-0-0 Doc and I have respeced to a Master Brawler / Master TKA / Master Swordsman 0-4-3-0 medic and it is working out pretty well for me I get three different heals and they are of moderate effectiveness....couple it with a pack of stim D's and I'm good to go.

hmmm well that makes me think for sure. TKM/Mswords/Fencer0430/Medic0230 and my 6 spent FS boxes = zero points left. Once I unlock my last 3 branches I can drop most of fencing to get into the Paddy trials.. interesting indead. I figure I dont need the group healing of medic 0430 so 0230 will give me 2 heals. How are they? Any data on how much healing they give you? I would get enhancers for sure.. what do they heal without them?

You will need to maintain some healing. However, if you are just grinding then novice medic will work if you have a droid with +110 healing. With a medical droid standing within a few meters of you, your bacta shot is about the same as a 4xxx Combat Medic. With that in mind, you will be able to maintain your CL80 throughout the Jedi grind. However, until you get some of the better Jedi Healing you are going to be vulnerable to BH's. Of course if you are careful now you might not even get on the terminals.

My advice would be to drop your Master Brawler and Pike skills first. IMO, based on what you had listed, I would go TKM, MSword, x4xx Fencer, Novice Medic, 6 trees of FS. If you start by dropping Fencer first, you will have 23 skillpoints for Jedi skills and still be CL80 with a good PvE skillset. Once you have the experience for Novice Force Healing you can drop Novice Medic and free up 15 more points.
