Thread: OOOOOLD player returning to to SWG.
Welcome back the changes they made with CU are very nice imo but some of them I dont agree with. Anyway don't solo anything until your CL 80 even then its only for fun or when trying to get hide or loot. Grouping is what the devs want us to do and thats how you level. Everybody in a group gets their own xp. You don't split your xp with the group members anymore. If you get in a group with some lvl 80s you will be considered lvl 80. This means mobs will not kill u in one hit and you will get the max xp for your level. You can now master a profession in 2 days by going to dantooine and grouping with groups that are lvl 80. The biggest problem with this is most players don't know how to play in groups. SOE has designed all the professions to have roles. You can check out the this out
http://starwarsgalaxies.station.sony.com/content.jsp?page=Combat%20Upgrade:%20Profession%20Roles%20Overview
That shows you what SOE wants each profession to be doing in a group. Due to bugs and nerfs some professions are not as good at their role as SOE wanted them to be. For instance TKM is supposed to be the best tank in the game but they don't get the area taunt. Swordman gets the area taunt which is not right since the swordman is supposed to be one of the main damage doers. TKM gets the same generic taunt skill in several of thier skill boxes which is pointless. So you see the devs are briliant in their designs!!! Anyway take a look at that link and it will help you understand what they have done to the professions. Until your CL 80 you may have trouble soloing anything.
As for your question regarding your speacial attacks as TKM you dont have any good ones. Right now you will need another combat profession to give you speacial attacks that can do real damage. The comman template is TKM/other melee prof/4-0-0-0 Doc. Most ppl take Doc or some healing skills for pvp. Doctors are on short supply in pvp at least on my server they are. Because of this and the fact that 80% of pvp is you against jedi healing abilities are highly recomended.
As for the unarmed mod clothing right now it only helps you if your not using knucklers or any weapon. The best weapon for a TKM is the Knuclers of Katarn which is a quest reward from a quest on the new wookie planet. If you dont have the expansions then you can find the Katarn on the bazzar for 3mil - 5mil. If you don't have the expansions I suggest you get them. The biggest benefit to have the expansions is being able to travel for free with your starship.
As for things to do it will take you a few days to master your professions then you may get bored. You can pursue a career in space or do all the quests on the wookie planet. Most of the quest rewards sell for a crapload of money. You could join the rebelion and kill imps! I spend most of my time pvping. You could even try to become a jedi but I don't suggest it there is way to many of them running around already. For me pvp is what keeps me entertained. The imps on my server keep me on my toes attacking my bases on a regular bases. You could take up scout and gather resources for crafters. Hide/meat/bones sell really well. Personally I can't afford the SP for scout but its an option.
Hope this helps.
1) Where is everyone? Depends on your server, but people are congregated pretty strongly on my server at (1) Dantooine Mining Outpost ( group grinding ), Coronet area ( commercial district in surrounding player cities, plus many AFK spammers advertising their wares ), Theed ( usually Jedi hanging out duelling/showing off in the evenings ), apparently Kashyyk ( AFK camping, quest running, etc. ), or Dathomir Jedi Village if they're busy grinding Force Sensitive.
2) Stormtroopers: They're driven by the Galactic Civil War ( GCW ), and depending on the planet and the server, may be a severe infestation or a relatively rare occurrance. More than that I cannot say, as I really haven't investigated the GCW much so far.
3) TKM Equipment: Clothing with Bio Mods is good, (if the Bio-Engineered clothing still works, which I never can remember one way or another depending on the day ). Weapon-wise, unarmed is better than pretty much any of the Knucklers except apparently the Katarn knuckler, available as a quest reward on Kashyyk.
4) Credits vary by server: on Bloodfin, a group with L80s can bring down probably 10 lairs an hour without working too much, paying ~9K each. A good night with a multi-hour playing session can bring in 200k for me, and I'm not a particularly good powergamer. So, in other words, your cash is slim pickins' any more.
5) Specials: TK has very few specials now, as you noted. The CU was really engineered to encourage people to pursue two -- not one -- elite combat profession to get some combination of power, states, or defense. Common things to "mix" with TKM is Doc/CM (which are both now combat classes) or any melee profession ( Swords is the most popular ). Mixing ranged and melee professions is discouraged on the boards typically, as the jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none tends to be significantly less powerful than a specialist.
6) As a TKM, you can still do solo work, group with others and go hunting, or attempt PvP. As a TKM/CH I'm investigating wandering in the wilds, building up my critter collection, but I know a lot of TKs who just gring out EXP andn cash, or go into PvP.
7) Quick synopsis of CL and PvE:
Combat Level is driven by taking skills in combat professions, and ranges from 1-80. Typically, a double-elite combat profession ( e.g. Master Swordsman, TK Master ) will be at level 80, and a single-elite combat profession will be around level 54.
There is a multiplier to damage based on combat level, so CL is an extremely important ( the most important? ) thing to check out on enemies before engaging combat. For example, you will do 20% more damage as a CL65 than normal against a CL63, making it tougher on the CL63 to best you.
CL also affects experienced granted ( a CL66 that kills a CL50 gets one XP, for example ), the health value of your character, your ability to use many types of weapons, the ease of which you will receive invites to pick-up hunting groups, and probably other stuff as well that I'm not remembering at the moment. In short, CL is king (for PvE) in SWG today.
It is possible to beat mobs with higher CLs than your own, but it takes skill, patience, and/or the willingness to seize any advantage you might have to defeat foes significantly higher than your skill level.
Hope that helped.
Most of the information you need you can find by looking at this forum for a while.
If I can, I will edit my post for some of the things you will need to survive in the Combat Upgraded World.
How's it going? I too recently got back into the game(about 6 days ago) and there are definitely some major changes if you haven't noticed.![]()
Your question about where everyone is at, well most people that I have seen are on Dantooine, Mining Outpost group leveling. That's another thing, you only really get XP if you are in a group. You may recall a period right before CU came up, where people would group up and go off and do their own thing. Same concept but only you got to stick together for this.
As far as expansions go, i have neither JTL or Rage of the Wookies and still participate in many things. Of course when you hear people talk about runningmissions onKasyyhk, you kind of miss out there, but I'm happy where I'm at.
Just be sure to get into a good guild and that way it will be easier for you to find the answers to any questions you may come across. Welcome Back!![]()

I'm a new kid: I started SWG shortly before the Combat Upgrade, so mostly I only know the post-CU system. But I'll try to give you the run-down on some of your Qs:

Ok as gor the Galactic Civil War aka GCW each planet has a score that determines which faction is in control of that planet. The score depends on how many factional bases are on the planet. If the rebels have the higher score then you will see rebel NPCs in the cities if the Imps have the higher score then there will be Imperial NPCs in the cities. Killing these faction NPCs in a citiy make a difference as well.
CL depends on xp you have spent on the skills you have. There is a chart somewhere that explains it but I forgot where it is. Basicly once you master one elite profession getting level 4 skills will bring your CL up the most. I am TKM/0-4-4-4 Swordman/4-0-0-4 Doc and I am cl 80. You don't have to get two elite profession masters but that is the guaranteed way to get 80. I think its easy to get 80 with the melee professions but when I played around with the ranged professions it was not as easy.
Another thing I want to point out is if your taking CM for healing your wasting 15 skill points for novice marksman. You save 15 points by taking doctor instead.
