well, i've mastered TKA and to tell ya the truth i'm just not impressed with my toughness..not whining broken class or anything, just curious about ways to beef up my defense.

this is the first character i have made so i have no clue as to how armor works. is the encumbrance an added ham cost like on VK's or just a lowered max ham. Does armor negate ur unarmed toughness? If yes, do shield generators count? What's the score here? how can i toughen up a bit without rerouting skill points and training other professions that add more melee def?

I was in your same predicament, although not master, I was on dathomir hunting with my friend and I could not tank a baz nitch no matter what I did, they simply hit me too hard. So I did some research on armor and read the armor guide from the main site, man it helped out a lot.

Now I wear a full suit of Mabari, expermented for Kinetic resists and lower ham, and I had it sliced. The difference is simply amazing. I went from taking 199 point hits on average from Baz Nitches to 57-60 on average, and that is before I stun / blind/ intimidate them.

Armor is a must, but armor is situational, where as my Mabari is great vs baz nitches and kinetic damage, I still get eaten alive by blaster fire, because it has no protection vs that. I could rectify this by getting a personal shield though and maybe an alternate suit of armor geared for ranged combat/pvp.

Ever since they fixed armor ratings, going with clothing is insane, unless you are hanging out in the cantina (or you have a Creature tanking for you).

I still have my GSP but I keep him parked while I solo baz nitches and only call him in if I get an add or a bad pull...

Try armor out, but make sure you order a special suit of mabari, because there is a lot of stuff out there that is crap. I had my armorsmith experiment a suit with high kinetics and low encumberance and it only cost me 9k. Plus the armor has my name on it hehe.

The HAM encumberances on armor work differently than on your weapons, weapon HAM encumberances only apply when you do a special move, armor takes the said amount in their description from your SECONDARY stats the entire time you have it on, and you cannot reduce any of these stats below 1.

With Mabari armor (the lowest HAM encumberance armor, pre-slice) it only makes my special moves cost a few more HAM, which is negligable.

So, in closing. Get in touch with an armorsmith see what he can do for you for different situations with low HAM.

I know you will be impressed.

For me, Armor isn't worth it..

I prefer to have fast regeneration rates =)

I've found that if you take off the helmat your regen rates come back up. They aren't as good when you are in clothing only, but they are pretty good.

I've had to start wearing armor whenever I'm in a fight. I just went out and bought a full suit of composite and use it in whatever combat situation I find myself in. I've got it all hotkeyed so I can toss it on at a moments notice...ie: when certain rebel jerks attack in Theed...they like to start in the cantina and hospital so they can kill all the afk players, dancers, medics and wounded. Yeah, real tough guys, they seem to like shooting my mouse droid too. Anyway, I also have hokeyed an item like a healers robe or some other many slot clothing item so if I put it on it removes most of the armor, making it easier to remove after a fight.

I really wish we didn't need to wear armor. But the fact is, with all the knockdown nerfs it's just too hard to take on high level creatures without it. And in pvp we don't stand a chance without it. Sometimes I think I only really need to wear a helmet, with all the eyeshot spamming BH's out there, but the occassional body shot pistoleer and leg shot carbineer have me just wearing it all now.

I actually get to beat on BH's a bit lately, because I'm going for master doctor and thus have my mind pool maxed out, so with a good composite helm on I'm actually a nuissance to kill. I still usually just end up getting kited to death while running on top of the guy getting "That target is not in range" BS but every once in a while I get lucky and the guy stops or something, at which point it's lunge, knockdown, unarmed hit 3 spam...basically "who gives a dam about hamcostsI just want to kill you before you start running again" tactics.

After it's over, I throw on a healers robe, remove the boots, and rest. Leaving armor on, regardless of the cost to ham, is just silly honestly. The reduction to your physical stats will slow your regen and increase the ham cost of anything you do (dance, healing, sampling, etc) regardless of the armor you wear. Sometimes it's a nuissance to deal with armor even with it hotkeyed, but until the Devs do something to change the way our defenses work, the unarmored tkajust doesn't last very long, and is an unfortunate necesssary evil.

That is of course unless they gave us back our old knockdown...yeah right.

If you do the math in regeneration vs. damage reduction during battle, damage reduction will win everytime. Also it is easy to setup a hotkey to take all of your armor on and off for regeneration benefits between battles. Try out either way, though. Everyone is entitled to play the way they want to, I'm just letting you know that you really really need to try a nice suit of kinetic resistant mabari! You may never go back

Yeah, I used to never wear armor until they changed KD. Now I have a full set of ubese, that has been sliced. It makes a huge difference. I am currently TK 0, 4, 4, 2 so your milage might vary...

I think there should be some sort of discouragement from using armor...I know it sounds uber, but maybe like a new tree or something (I'm dont wanna think too hard alt tabbed waiting for shuttle ) where you can get natural resists...Low %'s but its an idea.

And some sort of penalty for tka's to wear armor like...Uhh....IDEAS people

we do have a natural melee resist. unarmed toughness.

if there wasn't armor, then no melee fighter would be as good a tank as a novice entertainer.

btw, i do believe that there should be some kind of armor certification, just like any old rpg.

if you have 2 professions, then you can't use the skills of the one w/o the cert for that specific armor. like a figther/mage. you can't cast spells while armored, but you can still wear it.
