Well, I just became a Teras Kasi Novice as my PvP profession since Commandos suck in PvP...but I wont get into that.

I have an okay Vibro Knuckler, 2.2 speed and 145 max damage...I wear pretty good composite armor, even with the speculation that a TKA shouldnt wear armor.

But the problem are these HAM costs...I got myself a nice buff before going to dantoonie to hunt quenkers and stuff, and I'm still getting fried...it's my mind though, not health/action. I even tried drinking fishak, but I still destroy myself and of course the enemies arent making it any easier.

At 300 damage per hit...700-1k with unarmed 2 (then the HAM costs), im not doing so well. Does anyone have any tips as far as what to fight at novice? I assume that once I get my first skill (ill probably choose balance I...KD seems sick), things will get easier.

Thanks for the help

use fishak AND muon gold for your mind. Use muon gold first, then when the muon gold fades, take the fishak and it will counter the negative effects of the muon.

for quenkers, just put on all your armor and use berserk2. Or if you're foolish and don't have master brawler (heh) use berserk1. With berserk2 I can clear almost the entire lair spawn of quenkers before it wears off and since that's the only special I trigger.. I only end up taking the pathetic damage the quenkers can get through my armor. Hope that helps.

These are my three suggestions for your TKA toon (it's how I play mine),

Only use your composite armor for PVP, for PVE you should use 70% or better Kinetic resist Ubese armor. I know it doesn't look as cool or last as long as the composite but the Kinetic resist gets a bonus in ubese much like electricity does in composite so it's easier to find good resist ubese than composite, it's much cheaper AND the ham costs that are killing you will be much, much lower.

Get an excellent vibroknuckler with good ham costs. Don't just look at how much damage it does or how fast it is, you also need to take into account how much it will hurt you when using your specials which is of course whats hurting you.

Doctor buffs are nice but you can get similar effects from chef buffs as well (especially after the next publish.) I use Tatooine sunburn and Ryshcate (sp?) before a fight I can take two hits of each and I can spam specials all day with no effect. Basically I only take damage that gets through my armor, not from my specials and with my 70% kinetic ubese and the food buffs that damage is almost unnoticable when fully buffed (food.) I do however, keep a neutron pixie on my toolbar for those times when I don't notice that my food buff has worn off in the middle of a fight and I take a big hit (this is a downfall of not having those gigantic doctor buffs but at least I know when the spice buff wears off as opposed to the doctor buff.)

Migrate your stats to your mind. You can both heal and buff your other stats very easily yourself while in the field but there's little you can do to help your mind pool without someone elses assistance or just sitting and waiting for it to fill back up again. So, migrate stats to it so that it regens very quickly and you can heal your other pools all day maintaining an even balance. (I grouped with a guy the other day who had done the opposite and was constantly getting incapped during combat from his mind pool and couldn't figure out why he was getting beat so badly as opposed to me. It was simply that he wasn't using buffs properly and trying to compensate by healing himself but he was just killing himself a different way.)

Overall though, I would say that the biggest problem with your set up is the composite armor. Even composite with an uber HAM has higher HAm values than an average set of 70% kinetic Ubese. So, if you want to use specials, you need to change your armor.

Here's the thing, DON'T USE YOUR SPECIALS WHILE WEARING ARMOR.

Join a hunting group and stand back at ~8 meters and spam unarmedhi2.

Profit.

and get yourself some 1.6 speed knucklers.

Same as Naele said about standing behind groups, or as i do is not use any specials with fast hitting vk's seems better for me when i need my mind for healing etc and im still doing i suppose 300-400 damage everysecond or so. then when u have knockdown go to work when there on the floor for the i think 1.5 damage extra spanking em with super spammed unarmed 2 hope it helps

When using specials, unequip the VKs. Get the debuff specials out of the way, equip VKs and let default attack take over. You'll see that you will still do fine damage and that you will be regenning your bars while attacking. Once you've regenned, a little COB once in a while while maintaining default attack.

Soloing is better off a ranged profession (rifleman, carbineer). TKM should stick with the groups because the outpout is much larger, i did novice and 2 skills in a few hours, logged cause of boredom. When I mastered rifleman I did about 4 skills a day soloing, TKA is much different.

Thanks a lot guys I already had a lot of comabt xp to begin with, so I got whatever the intermediate skill was in that tree (i forget the name)....and I also got enough xp for an intermediate skill of the other 3 trees.

Now the question: Which do I go for first? I think it's between balance and power...because at the moment I don't really care about meditating. I was thinking balance since I get KD, but power seems to have better stat mods. Which do you guys reccomend? At the moment I'm heading towards balance over power and meditating.

I went with balance 1 first to get KD, then power 1 for dizzy, then balance 2 for general toughness, then power 2,3 and 4, then balace 3 and 4.

If you're not doing it already, make sure you use Intimidate. Its an often overlooked brawler special, and one I found extremely helpful in the early stages of TKA training.

With intimidate (which drastically reduces the damage an opponent does to you), you may not be doing any extra damage, but you ARE taking a lot less, so you don't have to spam unarmed attack quite as much. Get Unarmedknockdown1, then try to knockdown, and start wailing on your foe. Once knocked down, you'll be doing a lot more damage per hit, so -that- is the time to spam your biggest special.. Once they're up, hit them with intimidate, and go berserk... then sit back.

Hope that helps,

Aye, stun1, blind1 and intimidate1/2 make a great combo for reducing the amount of damage your foe will do to you.
