Flame me if you want, but reading here, everyone said grinding down Novice was the hardest, and afterwards getting to TKM would be pretty damn easy. YER RIGHT! I made Novice a week ago and I'm 3-2-3-2 TKA. And this profession is one of the 'loveable' ones in my opinion. Its funny to see so many things die from your two bare hands... And my sludge panther of course.... Heh, just my two cents, happy trails, and may the power of 'takin names and kickin a**' be with you =)

this is why your grind was so easy. you didn't have to take much of any aggro. any combat profession can be mastered in days with a pet.

i am going to have to go with JiveTime on this one. having a tank makes the game much easier. i know this because i have a Master Creature Handler named NeoEcks on Tempest.
so sure, your grind will not be nearly as bad if you are not required to DO all the damage yourslef and TAKE all the damage yourself.

You may also have been done, or close to it, if the pet wasn't taking some of your xp.

This is right on the money. I have gone through carbine, then pistols, back to carbines, over to rifle for a bit, and now the grind for Tera Kasi but I am a MCH so not only do I hardly ever get hit but I am not the only one doing the damage. One of the big time bonuses to having pets is you can easily change your combat profession without much of a problem or hassle to you.

i did ch for about 3 months...it's interesting, but it became old really fast trying to keep the creatures from getting stuck while travelling. it's also not a good pvp template in my opinion. although, if all you do is pve, it's great prof to have.

Yeah, I'm now 2.1.3.4 TKA, and theres not much I cant solo.. I just went with a large hunting group to Dathomir yesterday looking for enraged rancors, and I ended up being able to solo them all myself (I ended up having to leave because they werent getting experience, so I soloed my two missions and then went looking for Nightsisters).
Alright, I know most of my ownage is due to my 146 Melee Defense and 121 Ranged Defense, but I still do more damage now than I do with Master Fencer. And Master Brawler does help out a whole lot. Its just really, I attack faster and do more damage as TKA than I do as Master Fencer, and I'm not even master yet... Probably due to the fact that TKA is the only profession (if I'm not mistaken) that gives you more damage.
Not that I'm complaining.. I like being able to solo things with 20k HAM.
