After much ado and weary treading of the surface of Dantooine and Dathomir, I finally trained Teras Kasi Master yesterday afternoon.
My decision to come to the ways of unarmed combat was not arrived at by any easy means, to be sure. I started the game with the intention of being a Master Creature Handler/Master Bio-Engineer with some Pistoleer to throw a little damage onto the punishment my horde of genetically engineered beasts would unleash. After finding out the reality of Bio-Engineer crafting and the work involved in obtaining enough meat and other resources to continue the grind, I quickly dropped it to pursue some of the more glorified skills of the Commando profession; the Heavy Weapons and Flamethrower lines respectively.
At the time, however, flame dots still stacked and having 0440 Commando with MCH just seemed like having a big "I Win" button for the most part in PvE (although I won't knock the 10k+ Imperial faction and over 5M credits I earned running faction missions alone). To garner a more worthy challenge, I abandoned Commando and fell victim to the siren's song of the Holocron and it's varied profession demands. Along the way, I mastered Medic, Dancer (!), and Pistoleer. When my fourth Holocron fell silent, I realized that the madness surrounding profession grinding was draining any fun from the game for me and resolved to drop the inane pursuit of Force Sensitivity through mindless mastery of random professions. It is here I determined to take up an LLC and scatter pistol and serve the Emperor as an Imperial Bounty Hunter.
The journey through the Bounty Hunter profession turned out to be far easier than I had anticipated. I decided early on to flesh out the weapons trees first before tackling the behemoth that was Investigation. In hindsight, this turned out to be the best solution. Armed with mastery of Bounty Hunter pistol, carbine, and light lightning cannon techniques, I engaged to start hunting the scum of the galaxy from Coronet. On my first mission, I ran out to meet my mark in the fields outside the city. Unsure of myself, I engaged the mark and retired him easily. Surprised, I ran back and got another mission and this too ended just as easily with me the victor. Mission after mission came my way, with each mark proving to be easier than the last. My only downfall was unfortunate accidents resulting in my untimely demise at the hands of a mark on three occasions. The first two were due to unfamiliarity with my new hotbar layout and the third was during the final push to Master Bounty Hunter to a pikeman mark who got in a few lucky hits while deftly avoiding my dizzying and knockdown attacks.
Once I attained Master Bounty Hunter, I quickly realized that there wasn't much for our profession to undertake outside of more missions. I completed the Imperial and Jabba themeparks and looked for more content to try and keep my interest. Alas, the gross neglect on the part of the devs in regard to Bounty Hunter offense coupled with a complete lack of defense of any sort (not to mention the only protection afforded wookiees at the time were personal shield generators) caused me to regard the profession with a cynical eye. Thus Kazzabus was retired for a short while in the hopes that the combat rebalance would return the Bounty Hunter to the former glory of its earlier days when Master Bounty Hunters were spoken of in hushed tones.
With my interest in the game waning, I decided that rather than cancel and then reactivate my account when Jump to Lightspeed was released, I decided to create an alt on the Scylla server and engage in a play style previously unexplored to me: that of the healer/melee fighter. Tekkai Viraic was born as a Zabrak on his way to medical and martial arts greatness. In short order, I attained Master Doctor and 0042 Teras Kasi Artist. Realizing the fun I was having with this character, I wondered if it would translate just as well for Kazzabus over on Tarquinas. So, with great hesitation and a degree of sadness, I relinquished all my Bounty Hunter skills and pressed on reborn as a Novice Medic and Novice Brawler.
I'm proud to say that Teras Kasi, by far, is the most fun I've had in the game to date. It's so refreshing to be able to return to the places I visited as a Creature Handler and not be paralyzed with fear at the sight of a rancor or wandering Nightsister. Now I confidently walk Dathomir, seeking out Nightsisters and rancors upon which to test my mettle as a martial artist. My greatest triumph to date has been the ancient bull rancor that I soloed yesterday prior to making Teras Kasi Master. Seeing the great lumbering beast fall at my feet was a rush, to say the least. My only regret is that I didn't pursue this sooner.
