Innate armor is a skill jedi and teras kasi get. it is basically armor without wearing armor. You can still wear marabi belt and ubese bando/shirt but for jedi cant because of force powers.
First, lets cover the bug.
What happens is, if you wear armor it takes away the innate defenses in place of armor (can be good if you dont have much innate). How the bug occurs is if you are wearing armor and are hit in combat, but in stead of waiting till end of combat and unequiping it off you jump ahead to equiping clothing. This, I guess, makes the game think the clothing is armor with no resists, (i.e. boots and gloves which you CANT WEAR if you want innate armor) so no innate.
To fix this bug all you have to do is put on a full suit of armor, be hit a few times, end combat, and then take off the armor peice by peice and put on clothes(take armor off first after combat). This fixes everything.
How do I tell what stops my innate armor?
Go to options, chat, and turn on verbose combat messages. Make sure it includes armor. Now just be hit by something that does constant damage (your crafter friend beating you unarmed) and watch the verbose messages. It will say how much damage is absorbed. Now try wearing different things and testing it out.
So far I know pilot helmets take it away (along with jedi powers), armor boots and gloves(which should count as clothing damnit
), and thats all. The ubese shirts and bandos and belts etc do not take away innate armor.
That is all there really is to innate armor, just make sure it works as no matter who tells you, as a master TK it absorbes over 48% of the damage without CoB running.

By the way, some Credit goes out to forum handle SparkyNine for help with the bug. Thanks man, you rule.

Well the armor boots and gloves taking it away makes sense considering they require the certification to wear, for instance Assault cert for comp gloves/boots. Anyone that still wears it expecting innate armor to work in spite of the item clearly stating a cert requirement has taken a few too many hits to the head.
Now I definitely agree about the pilot helmets part, they should fix that since it can be worn by a CL 1 with no skills other than the appropriate piloting box.

What raldrum is saying, and the real problem isn't:
- If you wear a piece of armor all your TIA goes out the window (as it should be)
the problem is that:
- after you un-equip the offending armor, your TIA stays off. You then have to reequip a full set ofarmor, take a few whacks from a mob, kill it, then unequip the armor to reset your TIA.

I definitely agree there too, that would be very annoying to anyone that has that problem. Can it be reset if you just log out?

I was a victim of this with the TIE pilot helmet and relogging didn't fix it. I had to go out and buy a set of padded armor and equip it/get hit/kill mob/unequip it to reset the TIA

Ah ok, someone had said that it the only fix was to equip armor etc but I hadn't heard that from anyone else. In that case I'll submit a /bug about it here in just a moment.

Please bear with me I am new to TKA, how do I check my innate armor, if it is working, and how much I have? What exactly pieces of clothing/armor can I wear and not that will not affect my TIA? I am also MRifleman. Do I need to wear armor when I choose to fight RIfleman? Will my TIA still be in effect if I have my T-21 equiped and am fighting with it?

if you read closely you can see how to test if innate armor is working or not.
you cannot wear any armor at all or pilot helmets but can wear marabi belt, ubese shirt bando combo. I am not sure if that works but just test it with the verbose combat messages. I know it works if you have a LS out. you can wear any clothing.
