Please define "best" in your opinion and I am sure people will be willing to let you know. If "best" means great defenses and no need to wear armor, then yes TKM is it. If "best" means great offense and killing everything in sight within seconds, then probably not. If "best" means being an uber PvP machine, then probably not.
if you are planning on being a melee master, tkm is the best backup profession in the game, it gives you the best non-jedi defense in the game with improved CoB and with Teras Kasi Innate Armor absorbing ~50% of the damage (48% i believe) it will beef up your defenses in both melee and ranged areas, not only that your avoidance will go through the roof, master bh/pistoleer missed me 4 out of 5 shots, with CoB running, as far as damage goes, youll want to combine TKM with another melee profession to increase your damage output, the easiest to do is to combine it with swordsman for some incredible power attacks and critical strike moves to increase your damage outpout while using unarmed weapons, plus a good bit of healing helps, so you not only have the ability to tank but to heal yourself, i have a few combinations which have worked wonders for me in PVE, PVP, and Dueling all types of player templates,

master swordsman/tkm/master brawler/ medic 0040
master swordsman/tkm/doctor 4000
master swordsman/master doctor/ tk 0400 (current template-and i love it not only do i have tk tanking with improved CoB, but full healing capabilties)
