Out of pistoleer or carbineer, I'd say Pistoleer right now. Carbineer is sort of weak at the moment, due to the fact that the profession is built around KD/posture changes, which are nerfed pretty badly right now. Pistol is a good all around tree, has some good utility skills, and comes packaged with some nice defenses.

BUT, if you want my real opinion, I'd say go for Rifleman. They have a very high damage output, good crowd control, the ability to DB at range, and have the ever-feared mind damage. Unfortunately, rifles also tend to be more costly(Due to the fact that you're pretty ineffective without taking muon gold and/or BoH).
