Thread: Ranger TKA would work if...

Someone else has already posted the idea a "sprint" command and I think it is a great idea. However, I am working up the Ranger tree as well as TKA. So one day I was playing and got this idea.

You see...I am an Imperial and love doing Imperial missions. I am currently doing some level 17 missions on Naboo. And in many of these missions, much to my dismay as a TKA, there is this very annoying Bothan Rebel Medics NPC who has the horrible habit of running all over the place and doesn't take to lunge well. And many times, I end up on my backside because of him.

Now I truly believe in TKA and know that much of what will make you good is tactics and not the devs fixing everything. However, I got this great idea! As a Ranger, the HAM costs for burst run is very low. As a TKA, my ideal range is 1-5m. So I said I got it! When I come across this annoying NPC again, instead of using burst run to escape after he has had fun blasting me with a pistol for the last 2 minutes, why don't I kick it in in the beginning. It seemed like a tatic that would be repeatable and work.

So here is how is it goes down. I enter battle and kill off 2 of the 3 NPCs at the base. All that is left is the medic. I still have 2/3 of my HAM left. I target him, start my attack, and immediately hit burst run. I watch to see what happens. It is working I think! I am running up to him...10m...7m....5m...3m. I now am holding him between 1-3m no matter which way he runs! Woohooo!!! I think...then I watch my combat window for 3 ticks...

The target is out of range
The target is out of range
The target is out of range

Doh! What do you mean the target is out of range!!!!!!! I am between 1m and 3m!!!!!!! Oh ya...I can't hit while running!!!!!

I can argue this technique even from a game play perspetive. I am a Ranger...I know the woods...I even have the ability to apply camo which shields me from NPCs...I can run faster thanmost through any terrian. I would be able to get up close to something and use TKA tactics on it. It does make sense.

So please Holo...I know our dev doesn't type much and we don't get much response except for code However, would you please work some of the key issues with them. I agree I shouldn't be able to run after a Commando in an open field and not get my butt splattered. But when I creative, which I am going to have to be as a TKA (this will be half the fun) and am able to come up withviable/realistic tactics like this and to be so close but yet so far is very frustrating.

I see a couple things easy wins that would make us being creative work a lot better which I know one is coming for sure:

-Fix it so we can attack when running within the 1-5m range.
-Fix the terrian ranged issue (shooting through walls). However, I would also hope you aren't forgetting about land masses. Right now, I can attack ranged and hit something through the other side of a mountain.

Please help a loyal TKA player who just wants a chance to be creative in his fighting style.

For my part, I think this would be a wonderful combo if Rangers got some traps that worked on humanoids. I've seen rumors of them in development, but it would seem reasonable that if i have a drug concoction that can work on a critter the size of a house, then it should have _some_ effect on the human i throw it at as well.

As it is, I'm just trying to come up with the best use for my 18 skillpoints after i've mastered TKA and Ranger. sofar, its either specialist polearm for some higher armor piercing ability, or CH and 3 skills on 1 tree. Oh for basic classes to cost less than 15 points each

My skillset right now on lowca is Master TKA, Master Ranger, with a few CH boxes. I would comment on my skills in PvP(or factioned PvE) as a ranger, but in my opinion we dont have any. I have 3 faction pets to make up for this imbalance . My distraction involves my small army of pets that follow me around wherever I go. Heres how a usual battle goes:

1) Approach base, pinpoint weakest enemy. There are usually 3-4 npc guards for my missions
2) Send Ranged pets against weak npc
2a) Some NPCs may enter melee at this point with pets. Target them first.
3) While all npcs are distracted, run in and drop hardest NPC quickly(they never see it coming) The really hard ones may actually make it to standing, and hit back
4) Move on down to next hardest. By now pets may have taken out the original target.
5) Clean up any low life npcs that arent dead yet.
6) Mission over

I am imperial, and have 3 storm Commandos, and a Grand Wrix. I can do any difficulty Faction mission on starting planets with no armor, and about 1/4 life left. I heal on the way to the next mission, or rest for a short time. If my troopers get low on life, I put them away, go covert and go back to hunting stuff for hides(or lack thereof).

After the damage increase, Faction missions are actually fun and easy for me. However, no where in this scenario did my ranger skills help, unless you count an extra miss or 2 due to the defense at master. No burst running, no traps, no terrain negotiation, no maskscent, no camo. These are all things that may help GET to the missions. But are useless once there.

Hope this helps. My pets are really really expensive. 924 for each one. But they are worth it.
