Thread: Taunting doesn't seem to do it. Any advice?

Last night I went out hunting with a group of friends. It was intended that I be the tank. I am TKM, Master swords and 4000 doc.

I couldn't keep the agro on me for anything. The minute one of the ranged guys shot the creature, it was off after him and I was left chasing it down spamming taunt for everything I was worth.

How do you guys keep the agro focused on you?

I sure could use some advice on this. I feel quite useless in a group at this point.

Welcome to the club. Isn't it funny that when they fix healing aggro our tankability goes down? Taunt is crap even with the bonuses, I find myself trying to heal everyone so that I get a lot of aggro but now that doesn't work very well. They need to make it like eq2 where the taunted mob at least targets you for 30 seconds.

The ranged people have to follow your lead or the whole tanking thing does not work. If they start shooting before you land a hit, the critter will go after them every time.

This is the only way to tank and it is not 100% guaranteed to work:

1. Taunt the critter that you have selected.

2. Land a power hit like Critical Strike or Power Strike.

3. The range professions start shooting AFTER you land a big hit

I have been tanking like this since the CU. It only works if you are in control of the hunt and the range peeps do what they are supposed to. If you hunt with a bunch of yahoos, it isn't going to work.

I agree than taunt should generate more hate than anything else. I have used taunt to save ranged people in the geo caves. This only works AFTER I have landed 2 critical strikes and 2 power strikes though.

The concept of us being the "tanks" isn't going to work unless taunt is made a whole lot more powerful.
