I've always loved healing and its really come into its own with pub 19. However im starting to wonder of healing is really needed for a melee template? I'm thinking of doing TKM / M Swords / 0-4-4-0 in Pikes 0-0-4-1 in combat prownessand 4-4-0-0 inEnhanced Reflexs, oh and Master Brawler. Anybody think this would be viable induels and some pve?

IMO healing is REQUIRED for all professions after the CU. And people will pick up on this (some slower than others) - and then the devs will put most of the healing benefits in to MDoc instead of spreading it in the Doc tree - and at that time I will become TKA/MDoc/1344 Sword.
EDIT: If you ONLY PvE in GROUP, you might not need it as a rifleman - but as a TKA tank you MUST have it. You're not even half a PvE tank without healing abilities.
EDIT2: Regarding what you said about duels: I've never lost to anyone that didn't have Doc skills, you CANNOT PvP or duel effectively without Doc skills. IMNSHO

I agree that the dev's are going to be looking at pub 19 later down the line as a mistake. I think they wanted to make was docs and medics more viable in groups as a true support class. Instead they just got everyone getting great healing themselves so they can go solo. The first "nerf" I expect is with medical droids, then I expect the higher +med mods to be spread out in the doc and CM trees with the big bonuses coming at M-doc and MCM.

really, you can just buy 1k + stims and be ok. you won't be an uber tank without doc 4 x x x tho.

I disagree that it's required. During the respec, I ran TKM/MSwords/Pike 0444 (I think it was) MBrawler and did just great - I could tank, and kill, and didn't take much damage at all. I changed over to TKM/MPike/Doc 1002 now, and I'm doing just as good, but I can heal my friends. I do less damage, but last a bit longer (which I need to do, with less damage).
It's a good thing to have, but not the only thing.

Stims are sufficient in most PvE when attacked by just about anything 1v1. When things get dicey are when fighting 82+ and elite. I find that doc or CM heals are required if you solo for those times when you end up with 2 kimos or similar attacking. Even having 3 or so CL82 normal mobs can eat through 1200 hp stim-d's faster than you can cycle with ruby-biel at times. And PvP is another story. 1v1, stims can handle most anything but attacks from riflemen and jedi.
