Just want some clarification before I buy some AAs....
Does the 'unarmed damage' (or speed for that matter) skill mod effect vibroknuckler damage?
If not, how do you determine the damage that can be done without VKs and the effect of SEAs?
Thanks !

Unarmed damage does effect your damage output while using a VK, however the SEAs (AA's & CA's) do not work at this time. The mod works so food (Burnout sauce) etc works, but the tapes do not.

The skill mod that does work is the one before the slash in your skills sheet; the one you get from the profession and/or from being a Trandoshan. It's a one-for-one deal, if you have +250 unarmed damage, your VKs have +250 base damage. A 50-200 damage VK becomes a 300-450 damage VK.
The speed modifier is a percentage reduction. +30 speed means you reduce your speed by 30%. A VK with 2.0 speed in the hands of a TKA with +30 speed is actually 1.4 speed. That also means that at some point, your speed mod will get high enough to theoretically make your weapon faster than 1 hit/second even with the slowest special move, but since no attack is ever faster than once per second you are "capped". Also, once you hit +100 speed modifier (which all TKAs do at some point on the way to TKM) you will reduce your weapon speed by 100% which means speed is irrelevant.
