I'm unlocking my free toon from Jedi this week. I'm planning on taking 4040 ranger and need a solid all around fighting profession. I haven't had all that much time to test Tk as much as others have, so i'm looking for some advice. Thanks in advance

Didn't they get rid of that with the revamp 7 or 8 months ago?

they MADE it happen 7-8 months ago. instead of unlocking jedi, your main char becomes the jedi, and you unlock an extra toon

TK ever was one of the best fight profession ( the most beloved id guess ) coz of the toughness, the high acc, the speed cap, the decent dmg u do on all mobs that are not medium armor or higher, the nice defenses and the awesome powerboost ( self buffing ur health action and mind for ten minutes ),force of will wot makes u able to heal all wounds , poison and disease by meditating and u can get up from incap state and the very cool moves. i mastered it 4 times, i cant live without TK.
but the CU will hit live in 2 and a half weeks and this will screw TKM alot as it seems currently.... lots of moves are deleted, speed and acc go down by far ( wot makes no logic sense ), u cannot wear armor anymore ( wot may be not this bad as u get a natural armor ) , in fact, the only thing a TKM can do after CU is tanking. i couldnt test master TK on CU yet but the forum threads say that ur dmg will be real crap and the action cost far to high...
i also id have to admit that imo a ranged professions fits much better to ranger.... i was TK, CH , ranger ones and it was usefull but i found my earlier template with rifleman much more funnier with my pet as tank hunting "big" mobs like rancors
good luck to find ur decision.... master char builders are up on TC so u can master TK within 2 min, so maybe u should test self if it fits u

TIA is actually currently more effective than real armour from the Blue Frogs on TC-Ep3. Lacks a bit in defence (3-5%) but throw in the dodge, and it's quite viable.
We are tanks now, not solo fighting missions. We lack quite a bit in defence, and Crowd Control is abysmal. All professions can't stand by themselves, they all have a significant disadvantage.
If you want to start covering all your points, you'll need more than 1 Prof.

Pre CU I think TK & Ranger are great. When you're hunting creatures that can Poison or Disease you the Meditation is superb. I fully intend on keeping it even when they inevitably screw it up in a few weeks time.

Oh, one thing that bugs me. I'm FS and have used up 9 SPs so far in the grind, that currently gives me 9 spare SPs. Post CU I'll have a minus (-5 I think) of SPs, I'm interested on how the SPs will be re-allocated.

I'd say Image Designer, or Droid Engineer.
Yep Definitely!
Or... ohhh maybe Ranger!
Come to think of it Dancers and Musicians have it pretty bad too...
Man there are some pretty useless professions in the CU.
Poor dudes.
