ok, the move of the hour seems to be unarmed lunge. that's all that anyone says 'oh just do lunge and they'll have the posture change, then you run up, do kd2, head hit head hit deathblow'.

am i the only one who's targets get back up and continue kiting before i get close enough to do kd2? i mean, seriously, posture change slows them down for 1 second tops, that's not enough time to get down within 3m to land kd2.

even if i do somehow get within range to kd2, am i the only one that gets 'you failed to knock down your target' about 3 times as often as it succeeds?

and even if i do knock them down, and the dizzy sticks (and this is specific to fighting against bh) has anyone seen a dizzy kd'ed bh stand right back up? happened to me 3 times yesterday morning in bestine. i don't recall bh getting a combat equilibrium buff but i could be wrong.

now, i practiced pvp from like 8pm - 4am saturday, and then 11am - 2pm sunday, faught countless fights, died countless times, killed 3 or 4 people. i'm not complaining, that's pretty good for a noob i think. what i'm looking for is some tips (and i guess to vent a little hehe). so, if you have a tactic or strategy that you feel really helps in pvp, please post it! and if your tactic is 'lunge kd2 head hit head hit deathblow' then, um... thanks for your time and please go away [grin]

Your best bet is to build a macro filled with Dizzies and Lunges. A lunge does not always mean the guy will kneel for more than a second because of things like Defense vs. Posture Change and/or people that Spam /stand.

However the first key is getting the dizzy locked on. Then as you go Lunge crazy you have 2 opportunities for him to get knocked down. And bear in mind some stay down for longer than others. That is why it is best to pop off a blind and/or stun ASAP just in case.

the thing about forcing someone to kneeling is that all they have to do to get back up is move. if someone is kiting you, and you force them to kneeling, all they have to do to get back up and keep running is NOT let go of the right mouse button. they just have to keep it pressed, and they'll get back up and start running less than a second after they are forced to kneeling.

but you are right about the dizzy, i need to open up with a few solid dizzy hits. does anyone know if the dizzy timer stacks, like the intimidation timer does?

about blinds and stuns: i was under the impression that these status effects are broken; is this not the case?

The only time I have seen my tagets get up from a dizzy+KD is when I was over-zealous with the KD2 special. Basically if you do it twice in a row, the second KD2 actually brings them back to their feet even though they are dizzy.

Quite annoying, but I am not sure if this is a bug.

ah, i think i've heard you say that before.

that is totally possible. i just started pvp'ing, and, i don't know if you guys were this way, but i get an adrenaline dump every time i engage another player. for some reason it's just so intense, that i am just a bundle of nerves, and this results in me spamming alot of moves. so yes, it's a safe bet that i am doing kd2 more than once and causing my fallen target to get back up. i would assume, though, that is a glitch in the kd programming, as i don't see why if you kd someone on the ground they would bounce up. in any case, i will have to learn to control myself more in battle and be patient with repeated kd's.

hopefully, with more ''live'' combat experience, i will be able to better control myself and execute better. strangely, though, whenever i spar with another melee (consentual planned duel) i don't have that rush.

thank you for previous tips, and in advance for future tips please keep them coming if you have more

One problem with Dizzy then Lunge is you first have to pray you get in the magical zero range area to land a dizzy.

If you have KD2, using that first often is the first fatal blow to end the fight.

I will offer the tips and strategies that work for me. These tips are for overt only and the rich. The naked TKM without armor I have no idea how to help you pvp in that state.

Long before the actually fight happens you need to be prepared. You need some armor. You can use marabi armor or bone armor for a low ham cost armor that can still offer protection. At the very least, wear a helm of some sort. Your mind is your weakest pool so you must protect it. This is very expensive and the poorer fighter will be at a disadvantage. I would suggest doing some of the 22k missions on dath for quick cash.

Get doctor buffs. Make a doctor friend, guildmate whatever. Make sure you have ready access to doctor buffs when you need them. Having 2700 Health and Action allows you to chase a kiter for a long time. With 1000 health and Action the chase can be very short. Also the doctor buffs effect your secondary stats, allowing you to spam specials without worrying about killing yourself while wearing VK's and your health/action regen will be thru the roof. THis is where also having cash can help.

Now there is the new addition of dancer buffs. The addtional 1k mind you have tp soend 8 minutes getting buffed isn't worth it unless you are doing the grand battle. I wouldn't reccomend these as they take a very long time to buff up.

Food and Spice. Agnerfian Fishak-450 to mind. Veescrrupti Suprise-400 to will power. Muon gold- 500 to all 3 mind pools.* So at a minum your mind stats are
950 Mind 500 Focus 950 Willpower. Now add these to your current mind stats. Nice eh?
The spice must be timed. Spice lasts for 10 minutes. Set your timer for 8 so you know when to get out of dodge.
If all possible save burst run for the run out to a safe spot to rest.

Turn off your title. Or make it novice scout.

Ok. So you have atleast head armor or full armor. You have doctor buffs, you have taking food/drink. You are holding muon gold in your handy ready to take it. Since the game allows you to choose overt status, why not only select that when you are in the optitmum state for fighting. Why would a naked man step into the ring to fight?
Its really sad the number of overt imps I see signing up for an anchorhead raid with all kind of wounds. A wounded solider belongs in the med center or cantina, now out in the field.

If possible do some scouting to know who the rebels are. ALWAYS USE /WHO FACTION
/who rebel /who imperial
Lets you know who and what class your enemies are, if they are in the same guild or a rag tag raid or maybe just seperate people. Also lets you know who your allies are in case you or them need trouble.

So know you are prepared and you have a general idea of what odds you face and what classes to kill first. (advanced pvp imperial mind games-Give them tells saying meet me at such & such place for free stuff. Lure them into the trap and pounce! Very evil, for imperials only.)

Now is the time to go overt. Now you can take the shuttle to Moenia or whereever you are going and start to pvp.

You have gone thru this much trouble, so choose your fights don't let them choose you.
First thing, hit tab. This will bring up any target in the imeddiate area. If there is a target, go right after them.
Often times in the first 5 seconds of a fight they will stand there trying to switch weapons and toolbars or line up that special shot. You can run right up and land a KD2. 50% of the time, the fight is over and you have won.

You might miss or they resist. So now you have missed your first KD attempt, the person your attacking realizes you are a melee character. The battle now turns against you if your opponent has a pulse.

First off chase them directly and attempt to land a lunge, if that lands follow with a KD move. If that lands then use specials to target a low pool or use UACombo 3 for a devasting hit to all 3 pools, then UA3 to hit a random pool then either UA3 Combo or special target for a pool. KD2 or dizzy then KD1, whatever is more effective for you.

If they get up or you miss then at this point we go with the wolf vs rabbit strategy. Like carnivores who hunt in the wild, very few chase directly after their prey. They use a strategy of clever angles to cut off escape and bring the fight back to them. If you opponent runs directly away, look at the direction he is heading.

Often they are only looking at you. I have seen many people attempt to run away from me only to smack right into a building or some structure giving me time to catch up and use KD/lunge.

Know where your victim is heading. If he is heading back to that group of enemies you saw around the corner maybe its time to run away. If he is running deeper into town buidlings and such, then he is running into your turf. If he is running away from town into the open plains I would only follow with burst run or just let hiim run off.

Shuck and Jive. If your opponent runs away, you run away to. They might not want to fight or they may come back for you gunning. Stop and let them get close. Pull out another gun and shoot it. Even if you don't have the skill it makes think differently. Its just a bluff but it can be effective. Use angles to cut them off. People often will run in circles. Dont chase them but take an angle to the right or left of them that will allow you to cut them off. A zigzag chase will allow you to get in close for multiple chances. Run around corners feint towards one enemy then at the last moment turn on the other.

These are some prolonged strategies and these fights will take a few minutes. Thats why I stress the doctor buffs so you can last.

At this point you will have killed a few people and be close to dying. You have 9 minutes of unstoppable glory then its time to find a safe place to hide. Once the downer passes. Go back and fight again. Applying hit and run tatics will allow you to heal wounds and damage between fights, consider strategy and harass your enemies.

Now the medic you just killed sent you a dirty tell and came back to the shuttleport with 4 guildmates. They search around but you are nowhere to be found. Or maybe you notice a group of allies you didn't see before about to raid the town andyou join up with them. Or maybe its a stray enemy, they are careless and ripe for the killing. Spice up and get ready for action again.

/who rebel Again use tab for immediate threats. If they are inside a building just stand still and watch them. If the target doesnt move then a good chance you can rush in and land a fatal blow(kd2) before they have time to react.
If nothing shows up, bring up the control-m map. Go for the solo targets and avoid groups if possible.

Instead of fighting outside of the cantina, run inside and get them to follow you. This increases your advantage. Avoid wide open plains fighting if possible, run into a building and hope they are dumb enough to follow you. Cut them off if they run. Each time you get closer they will branch off in another direction. Don't use /follow. Anticipate their direction and take the best path to meet them. Buy a pistol and pull it out even if you can't use it, they may think they are in a gunfight and might not get so suspicious when you get close to them and then switch to VKs.
You have a key bound to allow you to switch VK's on and off and pistol on and off.

Don't rely on macros. They are handy to have but every sittuation is different.

Buy a rock bettle or a bantha. They sell for 2k or so. These provide a distraction for your enemy and do some additional damage.

Got the extra cash? Buy a personal shield.

When you follow these tips and face a opponent with no buffs, no spice, no food/drink, no armor you will murder them time and time again. Then when you face the well armed opponents you will have the tools and stratgies to apply to them to slowly work them down.
