Thread: Don't bother with any type of melee...

Bottom line, I don't care if you want to be a Teras Kasi, Pikeman, Swordsman, Fencer - ranged weapons have you at a huge advantage ESPECIALLY pistoleers when they have an incredibly fast delay and can drop and your 6 buddies alone in under 10 seconds with Stopping Shot. Melee just sucks. Even if you do get into combat range, the gun-using player is just going to take off running and the melee gets a wonderful lag delay for a couple seconds even if you DO reach your target, you just stand there for a second and look at him, "Uhhh durrr <drool>". Another thing that irritates me are the players that go the Bounty Hunter route, get Scatter Pistol certified and build up the pistol skill in the Bounty Hunter Tree, then they work up the pistoleer skill for Stopping Shot. It's obvious, the successful PvP players you see in SWG are either Pistoleers, Bounty Hunters, or a combination of the 2. That is the way it is. Pistols are the god weapon of SWG. It's not about skill, it's all about who gets lucky enough to get Stopping Shot/Knockdown first. End of story.

I'd like to disagree. I'm a master pistoleer, master smuggler working on master TKA to boot.

I had just gotten buffed by a doc and was feeling like some action. I'm a rebel so I decided that I could catch some trouble in Theed. I had a full set of comp armor and took some muon right when I hit town. I run over to the starport and take a shot at the first red dot I see. Everything went down hill real quick from there.

Some guy with a night stick jumped out and beat the living hell out of me. The lag was bad mind you, but I don't mean to use that as an excuse. This fella ran right out at me, knocked me down, and beat me to the cloning center. At that point, I looked at my skills and said "Hey, I have enough points left over to master TKA!" And here I am now.

I've been shooting at stuff for a long time. I have yet to power down a picket or a crystal hunter in under 30 seconds. I've had some great fights. I've won some and lost some. I've done most of it with a FWG5 in my hand too. I just strongly disagree that melee is worthless. I don't mean to flame your post in any way. I just want you to know that there are some gunslingers out there that go "WOW" when a TKA beats the crap out of a Graul Mauler with no help and no gun.

I'm running out into the fields when I get off work and I'm going to punch stuff until I master TKA. When I get the triple master rolling, I'm going looking for that guy with the night stick.

I would have to disagree I know a number of Melee on my server that are far better than any ranged people I know. A well played Melee player can beat most anything thrown at them, you just have to play smart and make them fight you on your terms.

Melee sucks eh? Well yeah since the devs to seem to prefer the ranged people I do agree. But its not our fault the devs and everything is against us.The devs love the ranged classes and dislike us and it sucks

THANKS TO THOSE MORONIC DEVS my guild got ruined and the other leaders may start to let ranged people in

Thanks to the devs I have quit the guild that I wanted to start

Ok, this post makes me angry..... here is a VERY simple breakdown of combat. I'll put it into different situations:

Idiot melee vs. idiot ranged... Ranged would win, and the melee would whine that ranged people need to be nerfed

Non-idiot melee vs. idiot ranged... Melee WILL win, and the ranged fellow would cry for another melee nerf

Non-idiot melee vs. non-idiot ranged.... It just comes down to strategy at this point, avoid "the kite" as I like to call it, and it would spell victory for the melee; however, if the ranged guy/gal can stay out of range... obviously he/she would win....IT ALL COMES DOWN TO STRATEGY, not who is "teh uber r0xor hax0r"......(You "leet kids" are the bane of my existence)

These are my thoughts and (in some cases) my personal experiences.

So sure are you? It's a rare day when I have to put away my VKs and actually grab a pistol to put a stopping shot in the back of some kiter's noggin. But it does happen every so often. Usually strategic planning and tactical execution is all that's needed to take care of any ranged profession.

Learn some tactics. It takes awhile but that's why there's that saying "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight."

I've found that I've got to learn what I can do and when I can do it because I have no range combat. It's the price that comes with a solely melee profession. Yet, I wouldn't give up beinga melee anytime soon because I love it so much.

Anyone arguing that running after a kiter like a stupid mob should work has no right to complain. I wonder when those people finally understand that melee is not meant to compete on open fields that offer perfect fields of fire, but in close quarters.

(Not that with burst run and some timing you cannot catch the old kiter or two.)

And for the hyper-dense: You spend 92 points on TKM. You should be able to spare some points for some sort of ranged skills that let you stop a kiter. This is not EQ.

If i can add a few things...

Ive been tkm for about 5 days now. I can single-handedly (non-buffed) hold anchorhead for hours at a time. I dont fear kiters. I dont fear other melee. I have developed tactics for all situations and i use them with devastating results. The only thing that has effectively disabled me is a combat medic with mind disease. Ticks for 600 mind every few seconds... anyone would lose to that.

If you get kited, duck into a building and stay there. They will either come to get you, or wont. Either way- you win. If you are ganged up on, use your tab key and cycle all the players hitting eich with kd2. While they are on the ground- spam away. CH's are no problem. I drop all of their pets in seconds. Even the new uber kimo's fall to my fists promptly. Ill even let in a secret- when another tkm kd's you and dizzy sticks- TYPE /stand and most of the time you will get right back up, as opposed to wailin on <f1> (stand actionbar). All i need is my crate of moun, ryshate, breath of heaven, glucose patte, flameout, and fishak. That allows me to counter any foe i have come across so far.

In the end, a well played melee can be worth more than several well played ranged players. Strategy is key. Nothing scares people like someone up in their face takin em out. Use it to your advanatage. Run into >insert faction city here< with your novice medic tag and watch the fp rack up.

But, then again im new to tka. Im sure you guys know far more than me.

Having said that, you should always use the terrain to your advantage. Couple of nights back, this dumb PVP BH ran into Theed shuttleport. I did a quick /who rebel saw that he was the only one, got my cats out, powerboosted and then ran into the port. He was still there near the hangers. I just let my cats go at him and while he was busy shooting them sneaked up to him, KD+dizzy TKA eye poke (since his action and health were buffed) and one dead BH. Then I saw another red dot rushing to me. I waited in ambush at the entrance to the port, as soon as the rebel commando got in, before he could power up his flamer, KD + dizzy eyepoke dead commando. Did the same thing with a CM too, all in the space of a few minutes. TKA have a very powerful weapon aka KD2 so that balances the fact that we can be kited. All we have to do is use the terrain to our advantage.
