Thread: Sad Tale for the Dev's
Another Wookie died today. He was a good wookie and my friend. He helped me when I was starting out, he took me hunting even though he didn't have to. We had fun. Now he's gone. What killed my friend? Frustration, plain and simple. Like anyone else that ever takes part in pvp he had a competetive spirit. He worked and slaved away, building his TKA skills to near mastery. He worked on all the other skills that one must to survive as a wookie that complement TKA ability. Even when the guild was under attack he continued to grind for those elusive increases in power. The day finally came when he said to himself, "Now I think I'm ready. I can handle some of the biggest badest mobs around, let's see how I do in pvp." So he went looking and sure enough he found a fight. Another TKA, with skills comparable to his own. His opponent was not buffed by doctors, didn't use a gun on him from 60m away. They started off as TKA's should, toe-to-toe and looking each other in the eye. The differences in them became readily apparent quickly. The TKA he faced was not a wookie, and wore a set of ubese armor. Of course, my friend did not have that option so he wore the clothes on his back. While they exchanged blows in their mortal combat my friend noticed that at best he could only hit for around 100 points of damage, while in return he was being struck for 300. Needless to say he lost badly and was killed.
In frustration of not being able to fairly compete my friend rerolled today into a human. It was one of the biggest letdowns thusfar in my experience with this game. I think it's sad that things should come to this for anyone. I don't expect a change in the way things are by tomorrow, or even in the next week or month. But at least consider this as something to address. At least he decided to keep playing rather than quit completely.
Have him play Pikeman and he will run back to TKA and realize it IS the Uber profession and that pike is the complete opposite, it is a joke. Pikeman = Town Fool.
Just let him swing and miss as a pikeman and he will realize how good TKM is, regardless of race. Granted no armor does stink.
I almost neveruse armour in PvE, barring the odd occasion when I realise I've bitten off considerably more than I can chew, and quickly swap into my ubese... I really feel like I am cheating myself when I do this however as its hardly realistic (unless I have somehow turned into superman, doing a megafast costume change in a nearby telephone box!).
Unfortunately however, the option -not- to fight with armour as a TKA in PvP is virtually non existent (if you want to win that is). Until some penalties are introduced (penalties which cannot be ofset with a simple set of buffs that is) for wearing armour, this is how things will remain. I would personally like to see such disadvantages introduced as:
Slower Terrain negotiation or even normal movement(moderate for Ubese, slow for composite)
Slow hit rate (eg. +1 to speed cap for Ubese, +2 for composite)
Effects like these would help add some variety on the battlefield- No longer would you see hordes of composite wearing riflemen/TKAs/Pistoleers etc etc etc. People could choose to opt for lightening fast strikes followed by a swift getaway etc. A person choosing whether to wear armour or not could trade both movement and attack speed for damage resistance, rather than it being the no-brainer best of both worlds as it stands.
Yes, I know this sounds like I simply want to nerf armour, but to be honest, do we all want to look like a group of clones on the battlefield? I've paid for my armour, and I currently wear it... I merely wish there were other options.
Just my thoughts on the matter anyway ![]()

TKM
a wookie has to take many things into consideration when chosing TKA as aprofession.
first, it is almost required that the wookie also take up at least 0/3/3/0 in Doctor. it is too much of a hassle to have to run around yelling "Any Docs buffing?" not to mention annoying to everyone else in town. the time limit on buffs makes for a lot of work if a wookie cannot buff his or herself
second, stat migration is a must. taking on the Doc's ability to buff allows the wookie to migrate a tremendous amount of stat points to mind, focus and willpower, the buffs will take care of the physical
third, healing. lots of players cry 'NO HEALING' when in a PvP duel...well if a wookie cannot heal then his or her opponent MAY NOT WEAR ARMOR. if the wookie is going into the duel handicapped, then so must the opponent. with the Doc skills under his/her belt, the wookie will be able to heal quite well during combat.
fourth, knucklers. for a wookie no armor means less HAM cost per special so knucklers are a MUST for the extra damage.
fifth, status attacks like wookie roar, intimidate, and warcry wookie roar and or intimidate bring down the defences of the opponent, and of course warcry delays the opponent so the wookie can 'catch up' on damage dealt. stun also prevents the opponent from hitting so often and so hard.
these tactics alone do not insure victory, however they will bring victory far more frequently than if they are ignored. i have no idea how many of the above your friend used, or how many PvP fights were lost before the desision was made to create a new characer, but hopefully the chose was NOT made on ONE fight...
To call my buddy a whiner without having known him isn't fair. Try to see the truth of what is being said. As a TKA in PvE, none of us have need of armor. I'm a wookie TKM and will solo just about anything I find, with or without buffs. It leads to a false sense of security and I, fortunately,have no illusions about what can/will happen to me in PvP if I'm not careful. He was experiencing his first real PvP and was so put off by his inability to compete he gave up being a wookie, not being a TKA. I don't know of a wookie board where this might be better expressed, but it definately concerns TKA's also. The message here is that we need to get out of armor and still be able to compete,I just put emphasis onwookies.
In my opinion the big thing he did wrong was not wait until master TKA. I do quite well in PvP, but I have a very specific role in my guild and I don't mind playing that role even though it means MUCH less kills for me than our riflemen or commandos. But, my lot in life keeps me alive and allows the other people in my main PvP group to kill the enemywholesale, so it's a pretty good trade. None of this, however, is to say that I wouldn't mind a boost in my ability to resist things like those in armor. None of this will get me myfriendback as a wookie. For that I need the Dev's to step in and make a stand on our behalf.
While it does stink, it is not like your friend did not know he couldn't wear armor. In all the time he was becoming a master i'm sure it occured to him several times that his not wearing armor could really hurt. He should have rerolled then, he did not.
He will get back to were he was and he will have learned a lesson, always think ahead.
I agree about armor having encumberance penalties this is very realistic. Just ask anyone who has worn a full set of Platemail or even a modern day set of combatgear.
YOU WILL move slower and have penalties to most all physical activities including hittingthings that is a fact !
Yeah lets NERF armor and those lazy stand and spam players : }
Honestly wearing armor should have penalties or make PSG's that have 80% kinetic resist's : }
