Hi,

Im new to the TK profession, not master yet, but soon. I saw the post about armor, saying that in PvE with buffs it isnt really necessary to wear armor. My fiance is a TKM (just got master) and he tried this out but took ALOT of damage without armor. What do yall have your stats set at if you do not wear armor? Also, if wearing armor, what kind do you recommend? Right now I have a set of comp armor that has higher kinetic resist (which I was told that I needed for being a TKM) but it has so much encumberance that I have to have a mind buff or brandy just to wear it (along with my doc buffs). I never really thought that I would like a fighting skill, my other char's are all crafting and entertainers, but I am really liking the TK profession. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

I was in the same boat as you for a while; here's what I did.

I'm a human so my stats are all 400-1100. I knew I wasn't going to participate in the GCW so it was almost all PvE for me, so I got an image designer to do a stat migration for me to 400 for all health and action stats and 1000 for all mind stats.

The reason is that since doc buffs don't touch mind, and TKA styles are all mind use, I wanted the extra boost there. Also, entertainer mind pool buffs work on your current level, sostarting it out high helps a lot.

With (currently normal) 2400 doc buffs you have 2800 to all health and action stats and 1000 to mind stats. add in entertainer buffs and you have 2800x6 and 2000+x3

Take one canape or brandy as desired and you can style away.

(personally I don't use the entertainer buffs, so I take a brandy and when it's half expired I take another. That wayI always have 2 running. If I need a boost or get full, I take a canape to tide me over)

As for armor, I got pieces from friends when I started so I've always had it, but supposedly you only need to wear gloves, boots, chest, and head to be good for PvE. I'm sure more folks can offer more comments in this area. I'd tend to think the reason people don't "need" armor is because of the states. If you open the fight with the dizzy style and follow it up with the knockdown style, then just focus on one pool, you'll kill most things before they get more than a hit or two on you. As long as you aren't swarmed, it's not bad.

You have to take advantage of your insane regen rate and no HAM costs.

Equip a VK, and if you can spam states: Stun, Blind, Intimidate especially, as well as a occasional KD, its not about not taking damage, more about killing them quickly enough before you take too much damage.

If you can, grab Novice Medic and some high - powered Stim Bs. They're quite cheap, and are lifesavers.

In truth, it's better to go WITH armor, than without. Sometimes it looks better without armor, but in real situations, under the current game format you need heavy armor.

For high-end content, TKA's turn into tanks, instead of the pure damage dealers, our sticky posts have great threads for this, so hopefully they help you out.

What matters the most is what is most fun to you however. What you enjoy, and how you enjoy it.

Even though I generally go without armor anymore, I tend to agree heavily. In time you'll learn what can and cannot be done without armor, but armor is recommended more often than not.

Low-end content is easily soloable without armor using buffs. This includes most missions. Mid to High End content is going to require armor. This includes many mobs on dath, nightsisters, singing mountain clan, static caves or content such as the death watch bunker, correllian corvette, geo cave, nightsister stronghold, and etc.

Composite is the overall best armor for the job, High kinetic ubese is fine for many creatures if you are on a tighter budget. Your options with composite is to buy 80% kinetic that most armorsmiths make...

Now if you want to get involved in pvp, it gets costly. I recommend high base high stun composite armor (stats depend on your server.) Have suits sliced so you can have the base stats above 85% (4 piece sutis are fine... boots/gloves/chest/helmet till they fix the way armor works.)
