Is the new combat system weird and alien to you? It is to me too. But here's how it works for TKs.

First, consider the fact that we now have innate armor. If you are a low-to-mid level TK, your current armor might have more benefit. If you are a TKM, you should try both with and without it, but you'll probably want to find some presentable clothes.

Second, you'llneed to redo all your toolbars. It left all the old stuff like /unarmedhit2 in place but they are now functionless. Clean house, then open up your actions window. You have, for the most part, all new skills now. Everything either causes more damage or causes a status ailment, so you might want to segregate the two. The "melee x" attacks will be your staple for now. According to the bug notes in your holocron, combo attack is broken (it seems weak and redundant). Oh yeah, dizzy is just a debuff now, nothing to do with knockdowns.

Make sure to find a place for all of your new "recovery" moves, and for some instant stimpacks.

Now for combat. Try things with and without your knucklers. So far it seems like my bare hands are best, but I'll have to do more experimenting.Combat is relatively simple, though you have to keep your eye on the toolbar and your HAMs. First double-click your opponent to start your default attacks rolling.

NOTE: if you ctrl-click an attack, it will be your default! If you find that your character attacks once then lays around, try ctrl-clicking your melee hit. there should be a check by it now. This is super duper important.

Ok, so you're throwing your default melee hits. Watch the melee hit icon to see when it is activating, or pay attention to your combat spam. Start throwing other attacks in there, and they will be shot off quickly. There seems to be two different timers, one affecting the move you just threw, and one affecting all of them. Using more than one attack and letting them alternate is the key to optimal combat speed.

Your combat queue is now only two actions long. If you start clicking icons willy-nilly, you'll never get your attacks going off in the order or frequency you'd like. On top of this, you can totally shut out your default attack, ruiningyour pugilistic rhythm. If one of your icons has a yellow border around it, that means that that is your SECOND action in the queue. Clicking anything while the border is still present will start cancelling things, and that's just unpleasant.

If you find that your action is running out at an incredible pace, that is nature's way of telling you to take it easy and use your default attack more, and to figure out your low-cost moves.

Finally, how to kick ass: Start by using power boost if you got it. Double-click your enemy to get in your first attack, then start the debuffs. If you are a TK only, you will probably only have dizzy and armor break, but do not underestimate these. Armor break especially is a sweet move, allowing you to do up to (about) 30% more damage per attack. Break your opponents armor, knock it down, and then throw your strongest melee move. Make sure your character goes straight for another default attack; if he doesn't, double-click your opponent again. Now you can alternate between your two melee attacks till the monster is dead or needs more debuff attention. Don't forget to try out center-of-being and see how well it fits in with your style.

Keep in mind that this is all just basic level fighting for those who are feeling confused, and there are probably superior strategies, especially where mixed templates are involved. Hope this helped someone.

Edit: upon further investigation, Center of Being is radical to the max. That is all.

One of our tailors on Tarquinas says TKs might like clothes using I think it's toughened fibers, if I remember right they offer ranged and melee defense.

nice post

helps alot in the confusion... have you ran any macros at all? i've had all my moves in groups of two or three pre-CU, now it seems as if some moves do not work in macros (ie. warcry and intimidate on the same)
